Spark plug coming unscrewed?
I noticed this ticking sound, only at low rpms. Checked and one of the sparkplug wires had come loose. Put it back on and it went away, then checked it when i got home. The spark plug was REALLY loose. This has happened twice before, and after changing the sparkplugs it went away. I tightened it up, and am going to pick up some new ones this weekend (i change them pretty much every other oil change), but does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? only happening on the third cylinder(counting from the left)
A common problem with spark plugs backing out is if they are continually torqued too hard when they are installed. On softer metal (ie. aluminum) the threads will actually start to spread a little bit and make it so that when you put a new plug in, it will still be tight but not tight enough to keep it from backing out. If it is just one plug and is not too loose, I'd just recheck it every once in a while. If it starts backing out consistantly, you may have to either get the threads retapped or use a small amount of "thread lock" to keep the plug in.
