Removing rear bumper support on crx..
Has anyone removed the rear bumper support from their crx to save weight.. If so how much does it weight and how hard is it to attach the bumper cover without it on there..
BTW this is a track car so I dont car what it looks like, just care about getting it lighter..

I'm not sure how to get a bumper back on without the rear support. I drilled and hacked out my rear one. The ideal thing to do is probably get an HF rear support. Its basically just the top frame and weighs probably under 10lbs

fyi

you can see the HF bumper is completely hollow and single layer of metal. the Si has reinforcement in the center, a lot of it. I measured the HF bumper to be just about 5 lbs, MY Si bumper weighed 20lbs, BUT, it was also really rusty.... check it out. so its safe to say its at least a 15 lbs difference.

the threaded bolt that is sticking out of the bumper support shown in the second picture in the bottom right connects to the chassis. theres two of them on each side set diagonally to each other. you can see the upper ones inside the car under the hatch with the plastic wall removed. if theyre not rusted or corroded, will look like a shiny, long 12mm crown nut with a washer on it.
oops, thought you were asking how its mounted to the chassis. youd have to make your own brackets if you really wanted to be minimal about it. the best option, but hard to get, is the JDM version, which is basically 4 strips of 1" wide sheet metal, a very minimal bracket. but hard to find sold separately from a rare jdm bumper sold on ebay or something.
the connections from the support to the cover are underneath the taillights, so you have to remove them to see the flush screw/bolt thingys. they come off with a phillips screwdriver, but are usually rusted tight and end up stripping, so be careful. at worst, just punch it out tangentially with a hammer and chisel to get it rotating at first. then theres two underneath (one right where the exhaust pipes exit). then one more behind the license plate.

Ahhh.. I might be able to fabricate something then to hold the bumper cover on to the car without the bumper support being there.. I guess ill have to remove it to see.. Thanks for your help..
