Default If my car has taken the liberty of doing its own modifications without my approval...

...will I be bumped into a modified class.

My ITR isn't going to be up a running for a few months and I've got to get in some auto-x's this summer. That said it looks like I'll be bringing out the 91 Si hatch. $700 of turn melting fury

Over time the car has taken liberty to dispose of its own muffler (rusted off) and has developed a nice crack in the exhaust close to the header. The sunroof was cracked so I also replaced it with some pot rivetted sheet metal.

Will people complain if I enter it into a stock class? I want to try to be competitive (blown shocks and all ), but I don't want to hear any bitching if for some miracle I actually place for a trophy.

Short answer: Yes, they will complain.

A fellow in our club is running a '83 Corolla in H-Stock. The car doesn't have anything fancy (including the 10 year old tires), however, the back bumper did rust off/fall off at some point.

Last event he ran, people were fussing over the lack of a back bumper.

Scott

PS: Did I mention it's also an automatic!

That's very gay. I mean, who would've thought that maybe autoxing was supposed to be for fun?

In the Philly reigon, they will usually overlook infractions until you start winning....

I'm sure if you were up front with event organizers/fellow competitors, most wouldn't have a problem. Unless you win. The lack of muffler might be an issue though for noise reasons.

I'll never understand the aversion some people have for following the rules.

If it's all for fun, how is putting someone in their proper class going to spoil that? My stance is that the animosity arises because the rules aren't always enforced. The attitude that "it's just a local event", or "they're not on the podium" so you shouldn't worry about it is crap.

The fact that a person is a newb - a club veteran - or that their POS car is simply falling apart shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not the rules are followed.

I'm not saying the rules shouldn't be followed, not at all. And maybe I'm looking at this incorrectly, but the problem I have is more with people who are feeling so competitive that they have to create a ruckus over a relatively minor thing. You're right in that if it's just for fun, the class wouldn't matter. Along those lines, if you're looking for a class win, and not just having fun, then everything I said is totally blown out of the water.

I just thought of something. In stock classes you can have an exhaust from the cat back if I'm not mistaken. Maybe I can just say its a new trick JDM setup

I'm all for following the rules. I just didn't know how close I would be cutting it.

< thinks the removed sunroof will still be a big no no.

Street mod here I come!

That was my point. I'll be there just for fun. I figured it would be easier to just enter the stock class instead of having an official come over a debate where my car should go.

If I place in a class I shouldn't technically be in I'll just forfeit the points/trophy.

If auxiliary automatic transmission coolers are not Stock-class legal, and someone protests me after I win my beloved HS trophy, then I will personally remove the B&M Supercooler from my car and bitch-slap them with it. In short, I wouldn't worry about it

I have to agree there, a bit of weight taken from the top of the car would seem to be a noticeable advantage.

Can I watch? Please?

Depends on the Region, your fellow competitors and how cool you are. Ultimately it is up to you to class your own car, not the Region. It is up to your competitors to protest. If you're not sure, ask when you register for the event.

Have fun, stay away from the weenie protestants, and burn up those cones.
