Default FAQ-98 Civic EX (check engine light- code P1456)

Check engine light popped on a day or so ago-checked at a local parts retailer-code P1456 w/ following notes

Evap" Emmission Control Sys" Leak Detected

Fuel Tank Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction

This vehicle just passed Texas emission control testing w/in last 7 days-any suggestions to pinpoint the cause of these problems before I take it to a dealer??

Thanks for any suggestions.

Gas cap on tight enough?

If not, retighten and reset the ECU to clear the code.

This happened once before when I did not have a gas cap on-had lost it. I bought a new one and was told the light should go out after a couple of "cycles?" It is not going out. However, should I have the shop use the meter to reset the circuit and see if it comes back on?

Truth be told, OBD2 has the smarts to know that if your problem isn't still there, it'll extinguish the CEL....but it needs to make sure of that. How does that happen...through more than a few drive cycles, I believe it takes around 20-30 (complete warm-up to cool-down).

So basically, you can either wait it out or just unplug the (-) battery cable, wait 5 minutes and hook it back up....code will be gone (unless there really is a problem at which point, it'll let you know that too).
