Default Speakers

Hey I just installed some Infinity Kappa 6.5" in the front.. I'm running them off of a Kenwood deck with 50 watts per channel. The highs and mids are much better than stock but the bass isn't as strong as I expected.. I'm looking for decent bass without going the subwoofer route, anything recommended.. to compliment the Kappas in the rear? Also the Kappas rms is 75 and my deck can only push 50 would getting an amp in there make a big difference?

I explain this to my customers all the time.

Imagine you're at a concert. Do you hear the kick drums coming out of the snare drum?

To some extent, a 6.5" will produce real bass frequencies.

In practical usage, there's too many other noises intruding into the cab to keep volume at levels where the bass can clearly be heard from those same 6.5".

Get even a small 10" sub in a small sealed box. There's a reason why people spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to hook up subs in there cars.

BTW, a nice amp for your mids and highs will reduce distortion but there's only so much bass a speaker will handle. The limits of the speaker goes hand in hand with the volume level. That's why even when we install a high quality amp and speakers into a car, we use the crossover system to cut bass out of the mids.

by the way... depending on what head unit you have, you are only putting out from 17.5 to 22 watts per channel RMS at about 5 % THD. the 60 x 4 Alpines claim 27 watts, but we've never measured that high without clipping. ( Signetics Thompson TDA 7560 chip )
see ya,
