don't think they sell after market ones, mainly because its all depentant on engine load, rpms... vechile weight, and many other varible's such as barometric pressure, atmospearhic temp, all of those sensors usually come stock on the higher end cars they come with the MPG read out you are refering too.
the analog ones, those are just based on engine load, and aren't real accurate.. besides if you wanna know ur MPG, fill up, reset ur trip meter, fill up again, divide you miles by gallon's.. you can't get more accurate then that

that's what i've been doing for a bout a year but i'd like a readout that i can see MPG on the fly. i dont care about weight Eng. load etc....

i doubt you can find it but there was a retivly simple electronic project in EDN magazine 1976 or 8, cant remeber. somthing like that. if your local libary has EDN from the 70's and you do find it could copy it and send it to me.

What he's saying is, the higher end models with MPG on the fly rely on how much load is on the engine, the weight, etc. It all has to be set and calibrated in order to get ANY mpg readout. To do it with an aftermarket system would require a lot of work I am guessing, just to figure out all of that junk. All when you can just divide (like you've been doing). Plus it's cheaper to just divide it all!
