Pics of my new roll cage 88 CRX
I know I appreciated looking at other people's roll cages. When I was at the Barber track this weekend I had to peek at some of the ITA CRXs at OPM to see what others have done. Anyway here is what I have installed. The stock seats went back in to get my car back to a different garage to install the sparcos/harnesses.

It doesn't matter if it is ITA or not.
That cage won't pass ANY SCCA, NASA or EMRA tech inspection REGARDLESS of the class.

Can you legally do this with a driver side door bar? I thought you had to have a diagonal at a minimum (assumed diagonal would be unbent). I may just be looking at the pic wrong.

The Cage is GCR compliant according to my friend who has been running IT for years and builds IT cars for himself and several customers. He had mine built up. If it is not then please cite the GCR.
Two, I looked at several OMP ITA CRXs and the set up in the rear was almost identical to the rear set up on mine (wished I had taken pictures now). Maybe I have not sat down and read for the fine print in NASA's rules but from what I read I didn't see where it would be illegal. Now this is second hand (and if I heard it right) did Tom Fowler run H1 for a while in a prelude? I was told the rear set up was similar.
Now as to what I doing with the car it is a track car right now but I am thinking for giggles maybe doing some SPU (now that I see a fuel cell isn't required) and maybe H1. Exactly what is "illegal" about it. Show me the page, section, and line. And if you are right then I will be making changes when I go for my competition license. PS, yeah I know about the battery. I have not moved it yet into a case. The former owner did that.

The rear "down-tubes" coming from the main hoop to the rear shock towers are too low. I can't remember the wording, but I remember that the rear tubes needed to be within a certain distance from the top of the hoop. I don't see how the ones in the picture would support the main hoop very well.

No I think you have it backwards.
Several people were kind enough to point out the problems with the cage. It is YOUR responsibility to read the GCR or CCR and comply.
As an SCCA, NASA and EMRA tech inspector, your cage is illegal.
The rear supports for the main hoop are wrong.

2004 GCR:
18.2.6 Bracing: (and listed in several other places, with the same wording)
The main roll hoop shall have two braces extending to the rear attaching to the frame or chassis. Braces shall be attached as near as possible to the top of the main hoop not more than six (6) inches below the top and at an included angle of at least thirty (30) degrees.

I built the cages in the OPM Prelude, and Chuck Reynolds CRX (the one Tom ran at the ARRC) and neither car has a similiar rear tube arrangement or drivers door to what you have. And your friend that says he has been building IT cars for a while like this is lying to you. You need to find better friends.
And we have yet to check the tubing material, diameter and wall thickness. If you tell us the weight of the car, and the material (ERW,DOM), diameter and wall thickness we can help you here also.

And you have several SCCA and/or NASA tech inspectors here who KNOW what the GCR says. I personally have certified about 18 cages in my 6 years as an SCCA tech inspector. Grumpy is probably working on 30 some odd years of experience. One of the cage builders FOR OPM is posting here . . . and yet you are still arguing.
In this thread there is cumulatively about 50 years of TECH EXPERIENCE. I highly recommend that instead of taking a "friend's" word you go out, spend the money and buy yourself your own GCR and read the specs yourself. Not one of us here expect you to take what we say as bible but I strongly suggest you listen and go out and learn it for yourself because if you don't you are destined to waste a LOT of money.
Just remember - we have nothing to gain by telling you that your cage is illegal. We are doing it as a service to you now when it is still not too hard to fix.

Buy a CCR? From NASA? BAH!
Free download at http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules.html
And Drew and Grumpy are 100% correct. Does the additional word of a NASA Regional Director and Tech hold any weight?

I said buy a GCR since he said something about the SCCA.
Yeah. We know the CCR is free.

So that we are all on the same page:
SCCA GCR 18.2.6- The main roll hoop must have two(2) braces extending to the rear attaching to the frame or chassis. Braces shall be attached as near as possible to the top of the main hoop not more than six inches below the top and at an included angle of at least thirty(30) degrees. ...
NASA CCR 15.5.11- The main hoop must have two braces extending to the rear. The braces shall be attached as near as possible to the top of the main hoop and no more than six(6) inches below the top. ...
A six inch rule also applies to the distance between the diagnal brace and the top bend of the main hoop, but I don't want to look that one up right now. Since these are straight pieces, it should not be too hard to cut them out and replace them with legal ones.

Better to catch it now then in the tech line at your first race event.

hmmm doesnt have the "swirl" of typical DOM either...good eye. not that it needs it, but most DOM ive seen lately they rotate the ERW starter blank as they cold roll it, causing that swirl.
