My brakes wont work- suggestions?
The first day I got my car the brakes had went a couple times- going to the floor. They still slowed the car but had no stopping power. I thought at the time it was due to stop and go traffic on the thruway. Now I have it home and it keeps happening- on and off. Not constant. Don;t know too much about the whole brake system, kinda listened for leaks with the car off, but nothing really other than that.
Any suggestions would be great!

Are you leaking any fluid? Is the reservoir full? If the answers to those questions are no and yes, then check the vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold to the brake booster (big round black thing on you firewall, that the master cylinder attaches to).
Sounds like you have an intermittent vacuum leak.

If it was the vacuum booster, then the pedal would be hard. It wouldn't sink to the floor.
This sounds like either air in the system (bleed your brakes) or a bad master cylinder. First, look for leaking brake fluid & see whether the fluid in your reservoir goes away or stays full.

yup, mine would go to the floor too, and the break's wouldnt engage, so i had to use the e.break to stop, cuz this happend while i was on the road.
problem: my master had went bad, and while i was driving, go figure!
why: well my problem was that theres a seal around the piston that pushes the fluid into the lines, which hold's pressure in the lines and the fluid. when that went bad, when i'd press down on the pedal, the piston would try to pressurize the fluid in the lines to press on the pistons in the caliper, and since that seal went bad, fluid would leak right through it and go back into the reservoir.
the fix: just go to pep boys/autozone/advanced autoparts/napa and get you a new master, slap it in, blead all 4 corners, after you put fluid in of course
and you'll be all set
now this was my problem to my pedal sinking to the floor. not sure if this is ur case but check the symptoms, maybe it'll be the same for you too

the whole brake system lol
buy a master cilynder pay someone to install it for you then you will feel some pain down there when you push the brake pedal

I had something like that happen to my Accord. My problem was actually the metal brake line that snakes around the strut. It was acting like a check valve so it would let the brake fluid in but upon release it wouldn't let it retract so my brakes on that one where always dragging.
The big way to tell if its that is if you've had alot of wear on one wheel that not proportional to the other wheel and the brake will not release on the specific line unless the bleeder is open, ex if the front driver capilure doesn't release but the rear passanger does.
Check that first because I replace my Master and it fix nothing other wise go with the Master and hopefully that fixes it
