track width difference due to trailing arms
I've converted my 89 Hatchback to rear disks using Integra arms. The arms are off of different cars (the passenger side one was originally from a car with ABS). All of the connecting arms are original to the 89. There is no indication that the car has been in an accident!
The problem that is getting to me is that the drivers side tire sticks out about 1/2" farther from the body line than the one on the passengers side.
So; the question is if the trailing arms have different "offset" and what are my options. I'd have no problem with buying a set of CRX Si arms if the offset was less, and consistant on both sides.
I'd really like to know where the arms could be measured to verify one "offset" to another!!!

i dont think there should be any differences. were the hub surfaces clean on both sides?
either way I have a setup of bare arms I can sell you, BOTH from a 90 CRX Si.
but i still dont think the arms are different "offsets".
what year tegs?

I'm not sure what year cars the arms came off of. I picked them up at a junk yard that had already pulled them off.
I completely rebuilt both arms and brakes, so, it's not a matter of something being "dirty".
I'll be looking for a pair of CRX arms if I can verify if this will help.

I found a site a while back that listed the offsets of a TON of different Honda/Acura trailing arms.
I'll see if I can track it down.
The largest difference between the stock arms and any of the Integra arms was like 1/8th of an inch. Is that really enough to make a noticeable difference?

I've also heard that 1/8" number thrown around (Yes, I did a search) and it wasn't clear if the difference was "total" track width or per side.
It's even hard for me to say that it's a 1/2" difference due to the fact that changing the camber will tend to move the top of the tire inward or outward. Both sides have close to the same camber (using the "washer trick" to set it).

I've also done the DA trailing arm swap, but I used DA LCAs too. I've not heard of any differance in the LCA lengths. After I was done the tires (195/50/15) are almost aligned with the fender, possibly sticking out a hair; I don't remember it being like that before. The car is also dropped 1" in the rear and is withing camber alignment spec.
I'm interested if anyone knows more about this subject.

Damn Wes I thought you knew everything!
I swapped my disks by changing the spindles.
I have a set of DA LCA here if the wider track is what you need.
On the LCAs, the EG and EF arms are the same length but the DA & DC arms are longer.

Also, the spindles and hubs are different on the 90-91 CRX vs. all other 90-01 integra and 92-00 civics with rear disks.
The 90-91 CRX has a narrower spindle and the hub itself is almost 1/2" shorter than the 90+ integra/92+ civic hubs. I discovered this after I purchased a set of "mystery" trailing arms with disk brakes. One of them had a bad bearing and I tried to replace it with hubs from a DC integra, a Del Sol vtec, and a DA integra before I finally got one from a 90-91 CRX that worked.
I didn't check the offsets of the trailing arms themselves though.

Heh, it's because I did a search on track width. Tomorrow I'm going to try to post a picture of my rear wheels. The tire does indeed protrude out from the fender, and after the mention of DA LCA's being longer, the question is no longer what caused it, but what effect it has...

After doing a whole bunch of research and measuring, this is what seems correct to me.
Using the DA trailing arms and disk brakes on a EF will result with the wheel mounting flange about 1/4" outward in relationship to using CRX SI trailing arms and disk brakes.
One good thing about the DA units is that they use a larger (and stronger) wheel bearing.
On my car it really bugged me and I ended up running HX rims which set the wheel more toward the center of the car than the aftermarket rims I had. The HX rims are real light, but not that wide. I've got Falken Azenis tires and it's worked out great.
If you feel the need to run rims that place the edge outward you could get shorter lower control arms and also adjustable upper arms. Some of the billet lower arms are shorter, but you have to ask the manufacturer to verify by how much.

Finally got around to taking some pictures (because we all know they make threads so much more fun) showing what DA LCAs and Trailing Arms do to track width.

This angle almost makes it look like there's positive camber, I assure you there isn't.
What kind of effect on handling does this 1/2"-1" differance have? I changed too much around the same time to get a good feel for what happend.
