1991 CRX Si Dash into 1989 LX Sedan... Possible?
I'm thinking about picking up a 1989 Sedan from my friend since my car is ruined. I want to put in my grey CRX Si seats but in order to do get them to match I'll want my dash (since I still have it)... is this possible and easily doable? That way I can use my Si dash harness and not have to **** with the DPFI conversion etc.
yes you can swap dash's. but as for the wiring u cant just swap in the dash portion of teh wiring and think it will work, yiou need to install ALL the wiring harness (a big long headache). So if i were you, i would just swap the dash using the LX/DX harness and just convert to MPFI...its not that hard to convert...
Wiring harness swap is a snap. Very easy. The dashboard is just a peice of plastic... you put the LX harness on it.
I did a 91 CRX Si Dashboard into my 88 Hatch STD. Took 2 hours. There's a bracket that holds the harness on. Unscrew that and replace with the LX harness. Even if your car doesn't have a clock in the dashboard, the wires to plug the clock in are there anyway (<3 honda!) The cigarette lighter wiring harness may be different because some models had a relay and what not. Use your best judgment, but that little black box that may be back there isn't necessary for the cigarette lighter to work.
1 Problem that really isn't a problem but an issue to deal with is that 3 of the 4 main bolts line up. The center console of the CRX dashboard has a bolt on the bottom (just like the LX) but it won't reach the metal bracket because the CRX dash is tilted back a little and towards the driver. The Dashboard stays completely in place without that bolt, however, so it's not a big deal.
Another small problem is that there's no place for the bottom 2 holes of the shifter console, but the 2 holes up by the dash bolt in fine, so once again... no big deal at all!
Yes the cable driven climate controls work. You HAVE TO unbolt the climate controls from the bracket in the back in order to move them. Be careful not to tug at the lines or pull them out of the climate control box. It will tilt and look/work perfectly!
Have fun. Remember that the Gauge Cluster is different from 88-89 and 90-91. I had to swap the mounts to put my 89 SI cluster onto the 91 dashboard, but it all worked out fine!

All I'm Missing Now is a Shift Boot and some black interior peices to match everything up !
(also some 88 seat pans to straighten out the 91 si seats
