Default Question about Meguiars 3 Step Process

I kno I kno been discussed many a time but listen...

I just bought step 2 polish and step 3 carnauba wax but they didnt have step one but Meguiars colorx is exactly like it as it removes swirls and oxidation is it a worthy substitue or should I go to another store and get the step 1?

step one is a cleaner wax or "micro polish" you can sub it if you want to. it wont really make a difference unless your using a buffer.. i would put the money towards 3M hand glaze for the final step :: makes a really big difference

I really wouldnt recommend the 3m hand glaze as a final step. It will come off the first time you wash it. 3m hand glaze is great as a second to last step (cleaner, polish, handglaze, then a sealant or wax). You could also skip the polish if you felt like it. You want to seal the hand glaze if you want its effects to last more than a wash.

well either way .. i like to use it as a last step because it takes away the fine scratches compleley .. never tired as a second step i know it work either way .. and a buffers not bad if you read up on them .. even the cheep ones work(take longer) but still work

step 1 is actually awesome.. what i would do if i were you, is what i did to my 240..

1. wash w/ dish soap
2. clay
3. meguiars step 1 (by hand)
4. Turtle wax color cure (by hand)
5. meguiars wax (buffer)

made my 6 year old neglected paint like new.

this was a few months later, still glossy

Wouldnt dish soap be harmful to the paint?

yeah, but i ONLY use the dish soap before i do a wax job.. between wax jobs i use carwash soap & finish the job with eagle 1 wax as you dry.. other than that, i will never use dish soap on a car.. i just find it better to remove wax and stuff from the surface before doin the new job, makes it easier to clay and stuff if the Dawn removes a lot of crap.

Well the thing is meguiars colorx removes oxidation and swirl marks also so its basically doing what step 1 does its suppose to bring back the life in your paint
