Mugen questions.
i have a few question about mugen peices. do the mugen header have more potential than the jdm type R header? do the mugen twin loop have more potential than say, a magnaflow custom, and also what about the mugen intake, better than a injen at making power. I am making my car as much as a mugen theme as possible, but if something else makes more power then it's going on there. thanks
I'm not to sure about the headers just wait for the great header test, that is what I am doing. That way you can see who is the best, in my opinin hytech has the best header.... The MUGEN Intake I know is good and better than injen but you have to get rid of your AC, a little pricy.
The build quality of the Mugen header is top notch. The primaries are oval shaped to match the exhaust ports on the head. Flow is good, but the header hangs quite low. Flow is maximized by the 4-1 layout, but due to the fact that it is meant as a bolt on replacement for the OEM pieces, the optimum primary length is not achieved. The Hytech header in comparison places the catalytic converter further back under the car (requiring a full custom b-pipe)
The Mugen Twin Loop is also very high quality and is noted for its mellow, deep tone. It's actually very quiet at idle and gets very loud as the rpms increase. Hytech uses the same design of muffler as the Mugen, except there is a much smaller resonator in the B-pipe. The resonator on the Mugen system is HUGE - but it is a straight-through design. Fit is perfect.
I'm sure you can have a muffler shop custom make a similar exhaust for you at the fraction of the cost. You will probably have to tinker with it a lot to get the sound quality you like. If affordability is your primary concern, I would go with this route. Open exhausts on 4-cylinder motors are not pleasant sounding to my ears (nor are N1 exhausts btw) - so I think that Mugen did a really great job with entire system.
The prime advantage of the Mugen CAI is weight. It is lighter than the AEM, bigger bore than the Injen or AEM and uses the S2000 cone filter (K&N type). Since the filter is in the stock location, serviceability is easier and the filter won't pick up sand and dust like the AEM system. Sound quality of the Mugen is far and above better than the AEM. No whistling either. But as mentioned above, you can't use it with A/C.

Yep, Mugen header sits very low, I have TEIN HA's and my ride height is only about an 1" lower than stock and I still manage to hit it now and then over very low speed bumps..
well i have all of the above mugen mod's that your thinking about.. and it is great, the car sound's like nothing else...it definately is not quiet, the intake is not as loud as the aem cai..but just like the twin loop the sound is very deep....you can use the intake on a itr w/ a-c....just get the lines evacuated....do some (quality bending)..put the intake on...and get the line's recharged..easier said than done, but that is what i did..that intake barely even fit's at all!!! just make sure the header you get is the one that say's j.a.s.m.a on it and that is the jdm one, which will flow better...overall it is definatly badass...im happy.....mugen
