Check Engine Light

How would I check the codes on my stock EF9 Hatch? My Engine light is comming on, but I don't have the time or money to go to a shop.

search check engine light. make sure to put the forum on crx/ef civic and you should get plenty of post to sum it up for you and make sure to check archived

Hey, its all figured out now, I got a code 7 and 9, the 7 is my idle postion, which I knew about already, the sensor broke off, and the 9 is my # 1 piston, which someone already told me I should try and replace the head gasket, which i'm going to do this week.
