Kumho 710s reinstated by SCCA
I looked and didn't see this topic posted (hope I didn't miss it). Here is what it say on scca forums
SCCA Lifts Suspension on Kumho Ecsta V710 Tire
SCCA Staff Writers
TOPEKA, Kan. (July 7, 2004) – Sports Car Club of America, Inc.’s Board of Directors voted Tuesday to lift the suspension placed on the Kumho ECSTA V710 tire for SCCA-wide competition.
The vote came after independent tests confirmed the tire’s performance specifications set by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Kumho had discontinued and collected the tires this spring, citing “inconsistent test results relating to tread splice and tread area durability.” SCCA followed Kumho’s lead, suspending the tire from competition in all programs on April 6.
The tire is again eligible for SCCA Club Racing and Solo competition, effective immediately. Competitors can tell if they have the approved Kumho ECSTA V710 by the inclusion of Polyester in the sidewall as part of the construction. The discontinued, unapproved tire does not list Polyester on the sidewall

Does this violate any of the "must have X amount of tires available for purchase before a certain date" rule? Structurally, its a different tire although it might have the same name.

Seems to me that this may have been a move to keep Kumho happy and invloved in SCCA racing... IMO, after the debacle with the V700 release and now having a similar delay with the 710 I'm surprised that SCCA is allowing the tire to be run for this season.
Christian, who's run Kumho's since he started autoX but thinks that this is pushing the envelope of acceptability...
