Default Stock intake 'resonator' question for USDM ITR w/JDM front end owners

My R came with a stock intake, but no resonator assembly (JDM nosed by former owner). I expect to change the intake, so it's no big deal. I'm just trying to figure out the extent of the former owners 'mod's (LOL) to this car.

Does the stock USDM resonator/intake (fenderwell part) not fit in a JDM nose, nd must be removed? (What I figured).

Will there be any problem having run the stock air cleaner/box/intake arm with the oval hole on the bottom of the air clear box open to the air at the bottom? I'm wondering if I'm ingesting more grit (stock filter), or possibly water. I plan to fix this, but was wondering if I need to do so imminently?

I want to know this as well ....

Will that affect the performance and the low end torque?

What's the use for the stock USDM intake resonator use for?

Ack, so my former R owner just took it out to increase breathing (which I dont really see being much of a real improvement, but definitely a possible detriment)?

Should I find one and put it back in, or just go aftermarket intake?

I operate in what one could consider a 'dusty' envrironment in the summer, and a wet environment in the winter.
