HyperFest July 10-11: tons'o'fun for #1013
All things considered, I had a pretty awesome weekend. I'd like to thank Dr. CorteZ/Jaime for some intelligent, encouraging instruction. Thanks to Smitdog as well for giving me a place to crash on Sat. night and wrenching on my car a little.
Also, thanks to the R-Speed guys for coming down and making the weekend 10 times as entertaining as it otherwise would have been.
And thanks to Adam Penn's motor for blowing up and allowing me to take your place at the event.
Highlights:
*Going faster than I have ever gone in my life
*4-wheel drifting through T9
*CorteZ dancing every time I rolled someone
*Getting caught going 76mph on the way back...and getting off with a warning.
Lowlights:
*Finding out exactly how far to the right one can put his wheels in T3 before turn-in
*Almost smashing into Soup ****'s butt (Why is my brake pedal on the floor?)
*Smitdog's run-in with the law
Driving on-track is now starting to feel like I always wanted it to. I was always pretty speedy, but never totally in control...that's pretty much over with.
Next thing I have to work on is controlling the red mist...when I started from back in the pack, I passed or caught up to every ITR further up in the group. However, when I started at the front (the last session of the weekend), I was so dead-set on keeping Smitdog and Soup **** (who started #2 and #3) behind me that I really "drove in my mirrors" as the instructors call it. I ended up overdriving the car and I had to let them both roll me. Some old man told me later, "Never start from the front - it makes things too difficult."
I am now in search of a JDM 4.7FD. There are a few places at Summit where I would really benefit from some higher revs in 4th gear. Anyone got any leads?

And there are a few places @ VIR where it could be a liability.
Food for thought. I think you should spend whatever $$ on events rather than a JDM FD

Where at VIR? I remember Jon Starnes saying he hated his 4.7 at that track. However, Summit is where I spend most of my time.
I could tell you the same thing about how to spend your $$ - but there are legitimate areas that your car needs improvement in. Since you don't have enough power to take T3 and T10 in 4th gear, you limit yourself by taking them in 3rd. Therefore: you need to free up some HP.
So here's my situation: I'm looking for more acceleration when exiting turns, especially 3 and 10. I think I am cornering as fast as I safely can in a car with stock suspension and street tires. I'd just like to be on the big cam exiting 4th-gear corners.

You are right about Ruby Tuesday...that was hilarious. That's what I mean when I say the NY guys can brighten up a weekend.

If you're not on the "big" cam exiting corners than j00 should be in a lower gear...

I used to think the same thing, but I am literally THIS close to being in vtak out of 3 and 10. In both turns, I hit VTEC just as I'm reaching the end of the gators. Of course it FEELS faster to be in 3rd; but I am not sure if it actually is.
