Default How hard is it to replace the motor in an rsx type s?

Well my buddy blew up his rsx type s last week. It looks like I may be helping him either replace the motor with a new rsx type s motor or with a JDM motor.

How hard is it to just take out the old motor and tranny and put in a new one? Stock to stock? Is it like doing a swap in an EG or harder? Anything good hints to know?

Also what about if he decides to go with the JDM motor. What all is involved with swapping that in?

Any help would be great. Thanks

It’s a simple question. Maybe you shouldn't post in threads where you have nothing intelligent to say. Just my $.02

Thanks that was really helpful information. You must be the most ignorant person on here. I asked a simple question to know what I was getting myself into, before going and doing this swap for my friend. I have never done a swap in an rsx before. Does that mean I can't do it. I highly doubt it being that I have done tons of swaps in eg's, and ek's. Along with many other non Honda cars.

Looking at all your responses in other threads it appears you just like to flame on people. You are one of those people who contribute nothing to this board but like to post like you actually know what you are talking about. And if you want to come off like an *** hat at least use spell check, because you spell like a 2 year old. Go craw back under the rock you came out of. Just my two cents.

I believe it is pretty straight forward.

If you go with a k20a (jdm dc5 integra type R or Civic Type R), you might have a few issues.

The Civic Type R k20a uses an electric power steering pump, so you would have to use the old one.

Also there might be a few plugs on the RSX harness that will not plug anywhere on the JDM motor like the VTEC oil pressure plug.

Once the install is complete, you will have an issue with the immobilizer.

Now try to follow me on this... Typically, the dealer can reprogram it but I have read stories of people that were not helped by the dealer because JDM motors do not have VINS like the US motors do...

In that case, you will have to bypass the immobilizer or get K pro.

THe info how to bypass the immobilizer is out there but is not posted on public forums because of thieves. The procdure is pretty simple from what I understand though. In clubrsx a few people had to do it after swaping the k20a in their RSX.

Thank you for some helpful info.

My friend was going to get Kpro for his car before it blew up. So that is always an option.

What about the wiring harness? I know when I swapped in a jdm gsr motor into an ls we had to use the us gsr wiring harness. We also had to rewire a few things b/c it was going into a ls.

Do you know if I can just use his US wiring harness on the jdm motor or must I use the harness they provide with the swap?

Also time any idea of time wise to do this swap? I am thinking I can get it done in a weekend. My friend thinks it can be done in a day but I told him he's nuts. This will be pulling out the old motor, and swapping in the new motor.

Also any recommendation on things to do before we put the motor in. I told him to buy a new clutch just to be on the safe side.

Yes the USDM rsx harness will do.

As far as time to do this.... A couple of guys should be able to do it in 5 hours with the right tools and a HELMS manual.

Straight forward, by adding no helpful or useful information to this thread.

Wow that would have helped a lot if I was asking where to purchase the motor. Already had that one covered. Just wanted to know what I had asked above.

I wonder what the gains of a k20a motor compared to the k20a2 will be? What are the price differences between the Japanese and USDM versions?

k motors are no joke, how he blow it up?

The price difference for what I found looking for a motor is the
US RSX type s swap. Motor tranny axles ecu harness and so on 4000
JDM swap Motor tranny axles ecu harness and so on 5500 both prices are shipped.

$5000 shipped with no suspension parts or brake parts on the K20A, compression tested and 60 day warranty. Maybe less if I don't take the harness and ECU, and even less with the parts sold from the A2 .....

Gains are 20 HP, LSD, better gear ratio. Supposedly the difference is pretty good and someone with just intake, exhaust and the Type R flash have put down 216 to the wheels.

Once you can grasp the English language come back and talk to us. No info was asked about where to purchase the swap. It was never asked if it was like any other swap. The question was is there anything to know that would be a benefit to him. Also about doing a JDM swap which you obviously know nothing about. Now run along and go walk your poodle instead of posting ignorant and useless crap.
