This is how I screwed up my fuel line.
Ok, I am a newbee and I was changing the fuel filter on my 93 accord LX after helping a friend with his Saab. Dumb *** that I am, I crossthreaded the bolt on the fuel line. Not making excuses but I was tired and the bolt had a whole lot of rust on it, so I had to use a great deal of strength to get it out (besides PB blaster).
Can you imagine how messed up I was? My bolt wouldnt bolt on tight and I had a fuel leak when I turned the engine switch to on position. (I did not even try starting the car)
Finally after speaking to some buddies we went to Advance Auto and got a metal adaptor (it had a bolt which fitted the fuel filter tight), an inch of tubing and some clamps.
I cut off an inch of the fuel line and using the tubing, we connected the metal adaptor to the fuel line. Clamped it tight and checked for leaks with the engine cold and also with the engine heated up.
We were concerned about the tubing affecting the fuel pressure, but continued as the length of tubing was small and it was pretty firm. Luckily the car runs fine now and all seems ok.
Why am I writing this?
Most of you are good mechanics but there are some dumb ***'s like me and I want them to learn what I learned the hard way.
BE CAREFUL while working and DONT ever cross thread the screw. If your tired and the area is difficult to access take a break and do it later.
Also there is usually an solution. THINK and ASK; There is a way.
