2001 V6 Accord leaking Rack - please advise...
I'm about to dig into a power steering leak at the rack. I'm loosing oil and it is leaking on the rear left side of the engine. It must be from the rack. I'm not sure what to look for in there and what to replace. Whether it's seals or the whole unit altogether. Do I need to remove the rack completely? Dismount the whole left side of the steering links?
Thanks,
Kris

i think it might be oil leaking out of ur engine...there were problems with our 6th generation accords with oil leakage. Check out Service Bulletins or Recalls to see if you can get it replaced or dealt with for free at dealership if ur still under warranty
Actually it's the power steering fluid. I do have to add it every week. It took me a while to track the leak and it is confirmed it is from the rack.
I read many posts about the leak here in other cars.

Actually, there was a transmission recall for the 2001 Accords... I didn't know about it until mine started making really loud grinding noises, then transmission fluid started leaking from the left of the engine. I took it to a Honda dealer and they gave me a brand new transmission... How about them apples?
Thanks for the tip. I checked and can't find anything. I'll call them and ask personally. Who knows? I bought the seal kit ($55.00) and will try it myself. Who knows. Maybe it is the fluid that caused it? All this Honda type fluid talk.
Thanks
Apples are rotting a little with all this crap weather lately.

Just an update. I was told to get a new rack and pinion assy. I couldn't believe it would go bad after three years. I removed it and found that the pinion was leaking from the top, around the shaft that connects to the steering column. I disassembled the pinion and cleaned the unit really good. Then I made sure I added Honda Power steering fluid. The thing hasn't leaked since. The dust cover currently installed after a small accident doesn't look like it belongs there around the pinion shaft. That's what caused dirt to get around the pinion shaft and the seal, which caused the leak. I need a new dust cover. Sure beats spending $500+ for someone else to replace the whole unit.
