Ignition trouble.. please help !!
Here's the deal .. I went to re-install an MSC SCI with a Blaster2 coil in the R (this setup was already installed in the car a few months back but I removed it to test on my beater so I know the parts are good). As it turns out, I inverted the wires going to the dizzy so that the ignition 12V(+) was connected to where the trigger wire(-) should have been. Everythng else was correctly hooked up. I crank the car a few times with no start. I double-check the install, find the inverted wires, and correct the situation. I went to start the car again and now it starts right up but it has no rev-up power !! It is driveable but I need to rev up to about 3k to get the car going. The spark plugs are totally black (too rich ??) and it is fair to assume that it is very low on spark. Also, there is a lot of backfiring when I drive the car (unburnt gas going down the exaust ??). Lastly, the only way it makes enough power to drive is if I set the timing to max advance.
Soooo... obvious question is, did I screw up the dizzy by inverting the wires ?? What else could be wrong ?? I put in a new set of spark plugs, spark plug wires, and rotor with no improvement. Last thing I did was put the original coil back in a pull the MSD setup but now the problem remains
HELP !!!!!!
