Default Just got a 97 LS bone stock...suggestions?

What's up...New to the forums, seems like there's alot of good info running around from alot of you. Just transfered from Spain to CA..in Oxnard, about an hour north of LA. Just bought a blk 97 LS from a 40 yr old lady who just used it as a daily driver, so the engine is in pretty good shape. Body's got some dings and chips from freeway driving, but minor stuff. My cousin's in Vegas are pretty serious in speed, but i wasn't too much...until i rode shotgun in my cousins crx with a bone stock JDM type-r b18 dropped in it. Whoa! we ran against a crx and a celica gt that night and smoked them. i couldn't stop thinking about modding since! I still want the LS to look nice, so what should i do first? Just got an intake last week, my brother bought 2 and gave me one after we dropped a b16 II in his 92 civic hatch. Sounds deep, but i know that there's alot more to do. Here's what i have in mind so far, in order.

95 GSR head (guy I met at Good Guys said his buddy is getting rid of it)
headers
exhaust
CF hood
98-up front/rear conversion
candy apple red paint (played out? your opinions please...sugg. too)
drop
rims

Is there more to just getting the VTEC head? like a new ECU? this guy said that his friend is getting rid of it because he threw a rod in his built up engine and is getting rid of the head. Bad buy? Heard that an LS vtec is the way to go for all motor upgrade. Any sugg.? Thanks....

You're gonna have to make some modifications to make the VTEC head work, but it's not too difficult. You need a VTEC ecu also. Threw a rod? Not necessarily a bad buy, but I'd get it checked for straightness by a shop before buying.

suspension. and i dont mean just a drop. like shocks/struts... and maybe a camber kit and alignment.

also, if you want to come close to matching a b18c5 (type-r b18?) crx in performance... an all motor b18b1 (ls engine) is NOT gonna work. go turbo.
try to find a sponsor if youre poor like me.

Most of all... have fun. hoorah!

From what you write it seem like your into speed, so dont do the little header exhaust. If you want speed saved up money and keep the car stock, once you have enough dissed it out and get a greddy kit( since your in CA and it said that it crazy over there). i loved my greddy turbo and i bet you would too...

2. comptech type r front lip, wings west sides n rear
3. Engine work (Ls-vtec, or turbo, or Ls b16 tranny i/h/e)
4. Start pullin

. . . . . . forget ls vtec . . . especially since your (not trying to be mean) not capable of doing the swap and going to have to pay for the labor, not to mention parts. go Greddy base kit and add a bov and i/c later . . . . word

damn you guys...your saying out loud what i've been afraid to say....TURBO...from what i get, the LS/Vtec sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I thought that it was a simple plug n play with the head...guess not. Honestly, i thought that more stuff would go wrong with having a blower, the engine has 104k miles on it, how much will the blower shorten it's life? Is there more to it than just adding the turbo? wouldn't i need to replace rods, pistons, etc? I still want this to be my grocery getter, but a fun one...i also got drawn into prob. getting a b16 tranny, just influenced by all the good things by a thread that was made by a guy with an LS and the b16 tranny...says that he pulls on GSR's and Lude's, until about 4th when the Vtec kicks in, then he's done...which is why i wanted the LS/Vtec...more torque and high end when you need it...N00b, huh? keep the sugg. coming guys, i just bought a car cover for my beemer cuz she's gonna be sitting for a while, the LS is fun and great on gas. I wish that i could post more, but i'm limited to 5 a day. btw, is the jdm front conversion alot more expensive than the 98-up conversion? if it was about the same, i would def go for the jdm...later guys.
