Squeaky Speedometer Cable

My speedometer cable is squeaking bad on my 87 Accord LX. Is there a way to oil it? Is it very hard to get to?

I talked to a machanic yesterday who said to pull it out and grease it down.

yeah just spray the cable with wd-40

Grease is better. I use white lithium.
