Default Lost and Confused

I posted a while back about what I thought was a miss-fireing problem, I replaced the cap and rotor, checked the spark plugs and wires and those are all fine. So I am at a loss here guys, I have no idea what to do now, I did notice something kind of weird though, now forgive me if this is normal, i'm just getting into cars, but there was oil on the ends of the spark plugs, the part that fires, but only where the threads are, don't know if its normal or not. I just need help!!

what motor? how many miles?

the condition of your motor could be a factor since you think its mis firing. if you have checked the distributor, rotor, cap, wires, and plugs and made sure the firing order is correct you could be looking at bad rings... if you drop a ring... like i have before... the car will sound like it is mis firing because there is no compression on one or more cylinders which could be one of the things wrong.

you should do a compression/leak down test to confirm the condition of your motor, and if you need to replace any internal parts that would cause the misfire. if you don't know how to perform the test then search the net and Honda-Tech because it has been talked about here...search the archive...if you still can't figure it out then bring it to a professional mechanic and have them check.

its a pure stock motor, 189,00 Miles on it, the guy I bought it from said that he kept up on all the maintenence on it, but so far as I can tell, he's done nothing to the car except change oil and top off the fluids, and thats it, he was one of thoes guys that thought a car would last forever if you didn't beat on it and you changed the oil. he's a real fruit cake.

sounds like my previous owner of my CRX..

"oh yeah the clutch is brand new, timing belt is new..new CV joints...bla bla bla, thats why i want $2500, on top of that the rims cost me $1500 with those tires"

i was 17 and had money to spend and i didn't know how to check all this and i happen to trust people until i have a reason not to. So i have had to replace the clutch and the timing belt and the rims are kinda crappy, i like stock steelies

and on top of that he DIDN"T take care of everything like he said and the motor was abused and now is blown

I had the same problem w/ my stock d15 & my girl's old 91 accord. The O-rings(seals) around the spark plug holes in the valve cover are leaking. Just buy a valve cover gasket set (make sure you get the one w/the O-rings included) & slap it on there. That should handle the problem. This was so bad on my girl's old accord that before I replaced the gaskets, she would have to pull the plug wires & wipe them w/ a papertowel just to get it to start.

Yes, the spark plug seals are whats causing the oil in the plug holes. Just buy it as a kit, it'll come with everything you need.

you can do a quick fix and put a thin layer of RTV or hondabond on the spark plug seals to fix the problem temporarilly.
