bought deck from Ebay, will factory honor warranty?
OK, so I bought a Kenwood mp3/cd deck (excelon x569) and i installed it myself, this was the beginning of December '03. I got it off Ebay, oh yeah it was brand new too. Will Kenwood honor their 1 year warranty? It doesn't want to recognize the friggin cds, I'm gonna try cleaning it first, gotta pick up dat cd from my friend, then we'll see what I'll do.
Do you guys have any similar experiences, any comments or help? TIA

Probably not, since you most likely didn't buy from an authorized Kenwood dealer. That's the risk you take with buying on eBay. The prices may be great, but you usually buy it without any manufacturer's warranty. Good luck though.

As stated before..your just S.O.L. Any repairs that will be needed will
be at your exspense. Give Matroy Electronics a call. they are located
@ 63rd and Kedize Ave in Chicago..you might get lucky ( but I doubt it)

ok, so I called an authorized service center and the broad that answered the phone said they have no flat rates. So she said $39 labor cost/hr., $25 handling, plus parts and I think she said something about another $39 bux. Damn, thats a **** load, especially since they probably won't finish fixing it in an hour. What should I do, should I have them check it out? What if I decide that they say, "It nees yada yada yada and it will be this much to fix da damn thing" and "I decide forget about it." It's kinda money down the drain. I don't have dat much money right now and in the future, should I pay what seems to be $100+ instead of a kick *** Alpine for (300+ but in a good couple of months) or should I listen to suck *** radio until I can afford to buy an Alpine off of an authorized dealer like Tweeter or Crutchfield?

What to do what to do what to do, most repair shops have whats called a go ahead price, that means ,you tell them what your willing to pay to fix it , they will look at it ,and if its your price or less they fix it, if its more they don't , you can expect to pay $50 to $75 if it doesn't need parts. 94

And if the guy you bought it from IS an authorized dealer..let Kenwood know you bought the deck from him online. they will send him a bonus for selling stuff online.

nope, checked yesterday on the website, not an authorized dealer. Anyone have any suggestions? yup... gotta watch some of the sellers on eBay. had you bought it from me on eBay, you would have gotten a warranty from me, and also free labor and parts at my cost for a year, and very low repair rates for as long as you owned the deck after that.
i started the business because of the flaky unknowledgeable ripoffs in the car audio business... too many lies about what is good, and what is not. truth is, is they dont really know. they only know the brands they carry. or what they read... and i see that a lot of people fall for it too.
but im lucky, as i get to see everything out there... and i do know what i see, and know exactly what im looking at... im an EE/ME engineer. you would be suprised that some of the things out there that a lot of people think as awesome, is really crap.
what bothers me the most, is these authorized repair places with incompetent technicians. i woulddnt trust them... chances are that it will develop the same problem later down the road. i have hired lots of electronic technicians, and i'd honestly say that 1 out of 30 really know what they are doing... scary thought there.
if cleaning does not fix it, then it's likely that the laser is out of adjustment. of course, those shops will just swap the laser for a new one, and charge you for it. ( 99% of the shops do not have the equipment or knowlege to realign lasers ) but it is possible the laser is bad. for that unit, i woulddnt pay more than $60 + shipping total to get it fixed.
also, here is a hint on something... Alpine uses the same laser... made by Sony. in fact, just about everybody uses them. Eclipse, Kenwood, Alpine, Denon, RF, Sony, Pioneer, and even crappy units like JVC and Aiwa...
no, this is not a spam to fix your deck... im a little too busy right now.
yes, this is a new HT account... i have long forgotten my old screen name and password... old age maybe ?
good luck,
dave ( <who has fixed over 2000 head units and amps this year alone )
