9 qrts of oil cause a rod nock? ( serious )
i sold my crx about 20 days ago with a ls in it and the guy says it has a rod nock? wtf i found out from his friend he put 9qrts of oil in it! will that make a rod nock or broken rod
Im not sure on the rod knock, but I would say that he caused his own engine failure. Without knowing the condition of the engine to begin with, before the purchase, its hard to tell.

if you put too much oil in, it has the tendency to foam/bubble. i dont know if it would cause rod knock but maybe that is what happened.
Its possible with too much oil...now with 9 qts I dont know. Too much oil can lead to foaming and airation of the oil...air instead of oil lubing your bearings certainly isnt good...either way its the kids own fuckup.
I've seen an engine smoking like a bitch with only 2 extra quarts of oil in it. After draining the excess oil it smoked for a few days, but went back to normal.
But 4.75 extra quarts of oil?

Jesus that kid is an idiot.

My friend did that, he called me up and said come over and change my oil, I over filled it a little. I went over to take a look, he said he poured and poured more oil down the engine. He said he thought it was suppose to over flow from valve cover. Well when I drained it, it took about 3 of those things from auto zone to catch all the oil. People like him keep me in buisness.

i think he was kidding.
but this stupid kid in my autotech class decided to change his tranny oil. so he drained the tranny oil but then put 4 more quarts into the engine. he burned a lot of it off before they finally found out what happened

could stop the piston from travelling DOWN maybe?
I remember reading in Honda Tuning they put double the amount of oil in a motor then they should have and it ran fine, blowing smoke and made no more power then a d16a6 (they used a b16a1), drain half and it ran like a normal b16 again.

Of course! If you fill the bottom end with oil, the pistons have to move that oil out of the way when they move up and down.
I am surprised the engine ran at all.
