repairing rust on a crx
I want to know how do I kill the rust on the wheel wells of my crx? The classic rust spot on almost every honda seems to be at the rear quarter panel.
Mine is just starting to make the paint bubble. My car is otherwise in mint condition.
suggestions to slow it down so I can save money up for the real expensive panel welding repair?
Thanks

Take it out before it really starts damaging it.
Grind the rust down until you see no more.
Then put either some rust sealer on it or some metal cleaner then either put primer and then some paint on it. This is a temporary solution. You want to stop it before it spreads. TRUST ME!

Cut and weld
Ok not really. As he said, sand the hell out of it. If it sands below what it should be, theres some fiberglass/bondo mix stuff that works great. Or just plain bondo will work to. I'd check on the inside of the wheel well to see if its rusting out there, I'm not really that experienced but I would sand that down to and spray underbody coating on it. I could be wrong about the inside though, I'm not a body repairman
Another thing is keep it clean inside the wheel well. If you have rubber protectors around the edges I would tear those off, they seem to cause more problems because the salt/dirt just gets underneath them and rots the steel.

its probably gone right though.
Mine was a small bubble, took of the bumper it was everywhere.
Cut out the old ****, weld in new metal, try and match the body. Por-15 the backside of it, then use fiberglass to match the body, rough sand, bondo overtop for smoothness.
The on the inside of the wheel well and on the lip use por-15, when its dry to the touch primer it. Then take your car in for undercoating to seal up everything.
Thats the 'fast' way. The faster way is smashing the rust in with a hammer and filling the hole wiht 10lbs of bondo.

Yeah, My rust spots on both of my wheel wells (outer side of em'), looked like one tiny spec. Once I got to sanding, it was all rusted under there. I ended up sanding about 2 inches in both directions. Just remember to primer AND paint it, unless you absolutely insist on primering only. If that's the case, make sure to use a primer that'll seal up. I didn't, and thankfully realized it, and painted over.

Yes. Very important. ALWAYS READ INSTRUCTIONS when you buy bodywork productions. Paint, primer, fiberglass, filler, etc. You must do as the instructions say to get good results.
My engine bay is just flat black primer. I wanted a flat black engine bay and a gloss black car. The engine bay is just primer, it isnt normal primer though it was a type that resists gas, oil, grease etc.
When in doubt do as instructions say.

i suggest you do what i did. fix what you can see with a quik grind, bondo, sand, prime/paint job, then SELL THE ******.
Its probly rusty all over where you cant see, and its not worth it unless you are a good welder and know body work and want to spend the time and money on a car thats really not worth that much.
i sold my 96 prelude for $3200 after axamining it close.... all the rust i found, it just was not worth it. look under your bumper, wheel well covers and splash guards, probly find alot.

Because you had a lot of rust that means everyone will? hmm. I had rust in my rear wheel well, and NO rust anywhere else. Rust isn't the end of a car.

There is life after rust
I see what he means, though. Just inspect closely, and if there's a ton of it, I would most likely cut your losses, unless you want to deal with it. If there's not much though, there's no reason to sell. My CRX barely had any, with the exception of those spots on the wheel wells, and then on the very corners of the hatch (like a millimeter of rust). Besides that, it was rust-less. I wish everyone was as fortunate!
