spoon vs. mugen
I was wondering what some pros and cons were of each exhaust. What does the spoon n1 exhaust sound like with the silencer on and off. Does it sound good and not like a fart can. ANd is the Mugen really worth 3 times the spoon.
Its a question you'll have to answer for yourself. Mugen stuff is expensive, and there are other products on the market that are far more cost effective. But you know Mugen products have been carefully designed and tested. If the price tag is worth it, all depends on your budget, tastes, and plans for your car.
Can you even buy Mugen stuff anymore? I thought Mugen got re-organized into a new company? Or do distributers still have surplus on hand?

IMO Mugen sucks. You are paying for a name. A von dutch trucker hat costs about $80 but I have one that says peterbilt on it for $2.39 and it works the same. I perfer custom exhaust with a muffler that sounds good and flows properly for my application myself.

I wouldnt say that Mugen sucks, but their products are extremely overpriced, so is spoon IMO. good products though, and that double loop mugen exhaust sounds really nice, and throaty.
since your username is Spoon-ITR, you HAVE to get spoon. good luck!

These are the Pros and Cons that I can see:
Spoon Pros:
Getting a product from a well known, and seemingly trusted company.
Thought through designed products with performance in mind.
Cons:
High Pricing
Not practical for your every day person that just wants to have some fun.
Mugen Pros:
Products from a company spawned from the Honda family.
Very well designed products that go through extreme testing.
Geared towards perfomance, all else is set aside.
Cons:
WAY WAY WAY overpriced...
Not always easy to get a hold of.
Some of their parts require other accessories of their own to function to full capabilities.
OK....aside from all that. Those are not facts, but just the points that I have seen for both companies.
Buy your exhaust based on what your final goals for your car are. Don't buy a 2: exhaust is you expect to make 300 whp. It will def. be a restriction down the line.
Also, don't spend bo-cu bucks on an exhaust A.) for the companies name B.) for the sound it makes. There are so many universal fart cans available these days that you can pretty much get the sound you want out of those.

I disagree that Mugen "sucks". Their products are great, just simply overpriced. But that all goes back to the Supply and Demand theory. If their products didn't have any kind of demand, they would've never have sold.

Yes, you can buy Mugen stuff at more places now than ever. At first, King Motorsports was THE ONLY authorized Mugen dealer here in the U.S. But, due to Mugens bad financial past, they have changed there name, and are now known more commonly as MTEC. Their products have been dispersed to many distributors across the states now, but are still as expensive.

the only thing i would ever buy from spoon or mugen are rims...even though ama have to throw down 2g's I still think it would be worth it...performnce wise...there are better cheaper parts.
I liked the example about hat.

it's true that spoon and mugen's product are overpriced. i noticed that when i checked out the price of their fr & r strut bars for my integra. i really like the mugen but i don't know if paying $500 - $300 for strut bars are really worth it.
o/t o/t spoon is all smoke and mirrors.
i've seen two of their baffled sumps and they're shocking. all they do in the way of balanced pistons is weigh in sets from honda and take a set of four that match.
i've only seen the cams in action once on an itr and it was making about 10hp less at the peak than the same engine and setup made with toda a's.
maybe the spoon flame retardant socks are okay though...
mugen on the other hand makes some very high quality stuff- but i believe they stop producing parts for a particular vehicle once honda ceases production of the vehicle.

And what's your reasoning behind this? If you kept your stock parts on, then you wouldn't gain any horsepower now would you?
And coming from someone that has "hopefully boosted" in your sig...I would think you would have a better answer for him.

Hey, i have the spoon n1 on my car...i didn't notice too much of a difference when i had the silencer in. It does not sound like a fart can...actually sounds low, no buzzing! It's not a full exhaust, so you will need to match it with a b-pipe. The spoon n1 is a great exhaust in my opinion - i recommend it! I also like how it looks...very clean and almost stock.

Spoon look almost stock? No, it looks about half the size of stock. It's a badass exhaust. I would recommend it. It's so much deeper than my Greddy Evo, and never sounds bad even in the high rpms.

Clint, i don't think it's half the size of stock...it looks somewhat similar to stock gsr exhaust. The piping is obviously bigger, but the tip looks real chill compared to other aftermarket exhausts i've seen. I love the exhaust...all opinion though.

Well said. Even the official Spoon Sports cars mix it up with Mugen n' Spoon parts... Both Spoon and Mugen stuff are good quality, flip a coin...
