setup: gsr turbo, hondata, walbro 255, 550cc injectors, 3"dp (running open DP)

the car was tuned and ran fine for a couple of days, then i had code 43 light up. its not constant, comes on sometimes and sometimes it doesnt.

i checked my spark plugs today and they were black with the electrodes being white so i changed those out and went out for couple runs, pulled strong the first two runs then it seems like the turbo just dies but sputters top end. and the idle isnt to smooth either.

those are all the symptoms i can think of right now. please let me know what you think the problem could be

Whats the CEL mean? Fix that first of all, I would tend to think it misfiring up top hence the fouled plugs. WHat have you gapped them to?

 

the code means "fuel supply system"

im running the ngk R5671A-9 plugs, stock gap

 

you are running rich I think.

 

cahnge your plugs, put new ones in, and get a better tune

 

ok i was just in my garage and i noticed that where my car was sitting, under the DP there are black spray stains on the ground as if the dp was spitting something out. maybe excess fuel?

it cant be the tune can it? everything was working properly after the tune

 

black means your car is way too rich. You need a fresh set of plugs (fouled plugs dont burn clean) and ou need a better tune so that you dont run so rich that you continue to foul plugs

Wrong Sir...the fuel ring of a spark plug is the top of the thread.

 

Gap them down try 0.030 it may just cure your problem

 

are you sure it's not oil leaking out of your downpipe....if so, that means your seals might be blown on your turbo. Therefore you aren't actually forcing air into the motor, which can explain sputtering high end (I'm guessing, I'm not 100% sure about how hondata works) because now there's no air to accommidate for that fuel. That's just my guess I'm not a mechanic

 

i dont think its oil, because i can rub the residue off the ground and it doesnt smear or anything. is there any other way to check and see if the seals are blown?cause thats kinda scary

i dont know too much about the affects of a bad o2 sensor, but from what i've gathered, people are saying that a lot of times code 43 means a bad o2 sensor, could a bad o2 sensor make it run rich?

turbozxi - do you know what they're originally gapped to?

For what you are running, these are too cold of a plug. Try a 7 series and gap at .028.
And follow what Geoff said.

turbozxi - do you know what they're originally gapped to?</TD></TR></TABLE>Nah not sure for those plugs but regapping them is definitely worth ago , a bad O2 or a check light of any kind will make you run rich. I would agree thats those plugs are a bit to cold for your setup as well.

 

try swapping out for bkr7e plugs...and see how those work out for you.
