synthetic oil - STILL CONFUSED!

synthetic oil - STILL CONFUSED!
ok, my 94 gsr was running on synthetic oil at 160k miles (i just bought it 5 days ago)
i recently changed the oil, but i used 5w30 conventional oil, now my vtec doesnt engage....
i was wondering if i should just drain it completely and switch back to a heavy-weight synthetic, change back to a heavy-weight conventional......i'm lost!!

You don't have to. Its just not the best thing in the world to switch back and forth.
And you probably won't get a leak going from Synthetic to conventional. Its when you go from conv to synthetic that you get leaks. Conventional oil allows some build up in the motor. It is just one of the characteristics of it. After time that build up gets into the seals and gaskets and actually helps a bit. When you put synthetic in after a lot of miles, it breaks down the sludge and build up, cleaning your motor out, but sometimes causing leaks.
Now that is a general statement and is usually true but in my Chevy I went to synthetic after 130k miles and in my truck went to synthetic after 170k and niether had a problem.

, my motor ran syntethic by previous owner, I switched to regular oil......its been about 7,000 miles now, motor still runs well

I fail to see why the change in oil would alter the vtec settings.
