Car runs like shit after my paint job.
I just got my car back today. A friend of mine painted it for me. I could hardly get the car home, it wouldn't run for ****. I had it at about 6 grand and it would hardley be moving. I took it to my mechanic who doesn't really work on imports that much and all he could tell me was pretty much that it sounded like only 3 cylinders were working most of the time. (lot of help...yunno) Any body have any advice. My friend said the only thing he did was unplug the battery and didn't touch anything else when he sprayed it.
maybe your friend took it for a joy ride and burnt out your clutch or motor
no really, what are the symtoms?
Is it slipping, hesitating, etc....
check your air intake and exhaust, make sure there isn't any bad overspray; short of that, I don't see how a paint job would make your car run bad.
one more stupid suggestion: maybe he put several coats on, and the car just weighs more now......making it feel sluggish...........j/k
in all likelihood, it's just a coincidence, and your car needs a tuneup

Why's he "your" mechanic then??Maybe the car was running when it was painted and now theres paint clogging the filter? Your friend probably has the answer for you...not anyone in here

I live in small town West Virginia and I'd have to drive over 2 hrs to an import mechanic. The guy who painted my car is 20 years old same age as me and he's very unexperienced. Don't get me wrong he's good at painting but anything else with cars....ehhh. The idiot did spray my exhaust though could that have anything to do w/ the prob. I kinda don't want to drive 2 hrs in a car that hardly runs plus I'd like to let the car set in a my garage until I'm allowed to put a coat of wax on it. Before bugs are hitting it a 70mph.
What I think is that your so called friend took it for a joy ride and cracked a piston etc. etc. , you should have been aware of you mileage. If you dropped it off fine and now its screwed your friend is holding something from you.
i think you should clean your air filter and check the throttle body for any over spray or clogging because of the over spray. also check the cap and rotor.also check the spark plug wires, plugs.it could also be that you burned out the cylinder.go to a import mechanic
I don't give a rats *** if your mechanic doesn't work on imports. If he is a mechanic he can at least diagnos possible problems. Maybe he doesn't understand how vtec works but that doesn't mean anything. If he is a mechanic that knows how fuel injected cars operate he can work on it. They are all basically the same. It is still an internal combustoin engine. If he has no clue how fuel injection, electronic ignition systems, or computer controlled cars in general work then you need to find a mechanic that is not stuck in the 1970s.
sounds like your friend is an ******* and is lyin to you. probably drove it around and mashed the heck out of it til it broke somethin.
I would definatly check the grounds first. Also, a friend of mine had his car painted and they covered his filter with overspray (he had a CAI) that also could be a problem.
well if you think its running on only 3 cyliinders id take it somewhere or if you can do it yourself...have a compression tests done, best way to find out.

Thats what i think
