And I thought the cams went in sooo well...
last night:
so there were some b20b cams laying around, and I thought, hell, I'll throw them into my stock 1990 acura integra with 260,000km on it.
now, I know that there really is no difference in lift (measured), and probably not even in duration, but I thought, what the hell, why not?
so, in go the cams, adjusted the valves, check the timing belt and such, everything is fine.
turn it over, starts first time with no issues.
but it does sound like a diesel.
well, whatever, I'll redo the valve adjustment tomorrow.
this morning:
drive about 100km round trip to coach soccer, and just as I get back into town, I notice my car is struggling to idle. hell, struggling to do ANYTHING.
hmm.
towed home, take off the valve cover.. everything.. looks fine.
hmm, metal shavings on the .. no, that would be a groove cut out in a circular shape, on the inside of the valve cover, right where the exhaust cam gear is. hmm..
inspect cam gear, find that it is wobbling around, and untightened.
hmm. take off bolt.
so you know that little nib on the cam that the cam gear slides onto to keep it from spinning?
it falls to the ground.
so, did it seize? iunno.
am I pissed? no.
do I have words of advice? yes.
if someone else has assembled an engine, and you are getting parts from that engine, even if it only has 2000km on it, double check the torque specs.
maybe it wasn't tight, maybe the cam seized. I don't know.
but this sucks.
pictures soon.

I'm not totally worried, since there's a b20b head with less than 2000km on it sitting in the garage.
it's just going to be a pain in the ***.

You should be fine. Unless you heard the knocking sound of the valves hitting the pistons then you didnt do any damage(given it couldve happened and you just not heard it), but you probably didnt mess anything up(or so you can hope).
I wanted to see if there really was or was not a difference between the b20b and the b18a cams.
I was bored as well.
we've got the old ones in, just going to adjust the valves and throw some oil in and hope for the best.
