Mucky master Cylinder?

Default Mucky master Cylinder?

hey yall, well I bought my CRX a little while ago, and the Rear Cylinders need replacing, and so Did the master. I said, hell, Easy enough. replaced the Cylinders, And bench bleed the master. Using brand new brake Fluid. I also changed out all the fluid in all the brake lines. I blead the whole system starting from the farthest from teh driver seat.big diffrence. old stuff was really mucky and brown. new stuff was nice and clear. now about 2k miles later. Its happening agian. and Im loosing fluid??? I dont get it. could the booster be a problem???? Im at a lost.

If you are loosing fluid then it's not the booster.

The booster has nothign to do with fluid.


The most I can help you is to tell you to start looking for leaks! IF you are loosing fluid it's obviously coming out someplace.

I think ive Located the leak, its the Rear Drivers side wheel Cylinder, The threads of the banjo bolt are craped. and there leaking. but that doesnt tell me why my fluid is all mucky.

I would think mucky would be corrosion, rust, etc.... Brown would suggest rust (Red + Greenish would make a brown color)

If it's rust, I don't know if there's anything you can do for it besides replace lines. Maybe someone has some input.

had no idea rust can get into brake lines, thats a new one for me. Thought they were made of Aluminum????? replacing all the brake lines from the master back would be hell.

basically it comes down to that. The brake fluid is slightly corrosive, it will break down the seals and start eating the lines too. it takes time, but on an old car, hey its already done. Don't worry about the colour though. Just get the leak fixed, and everything should be okay. Hell, get some food colouring and change that **** to whatever colour you want!

ok, Fix the leak. but Im still getting that nasty gunk ****, Its going to Make me change master Cylinders alot. I wana fix this crap.

its prob. coming from your proportioning valve-the mucky fluid.....if you hvae a firm pedal and no external leaks minus the banjo bolt problem you seem to be having then I wouldnt worry about mucky fluid.....as long as there is no air in the lines and you hvae a firm pedal then who gives a ****.

how thick of crap are we talking? is it slightly thicker than the brake fluid, is it sludgy, what? It could be left over broken down seals that are still stuck up in your calipers. You have to figure that those are big reservoirs that have been holding **** the life of your car. you could clean them out really well by wasting a whole thing of brake fluid and flushing the hell out of them.

Ill try to get a pic of it, But right now its not to bad. but when I bought the car I knew that It needed Rear Cylinders and Master. But the fluid was low, so I put some in there. Ever mix water and Cooking oil??? Thats what It looked like. and If I dont fix it soon, its going to do the same.

And when I was bleeding the system after installing the Cylinders and master. I used brand new fluid. and there was a big diffrence between fluids, and When the fluid became clear from the bleeder screw. I kept bleeding it just incase. Wouldnt it when bleeding if its comming from the Calipers the Fluid would be brown??

I'm trying to figure out if you were drunk when you wrote that last bit....but yeah, if the brown is coming from just your calibers, than its rust and **** inside there.

usually when the master cylinder is breaking down, the fluid kinda takes on a yellowish tint, but because everything eventually makes it back, especially with constant braking, its hard to tell exactly where the colour is coming from. But brown, yeah bud, thats rust.
