Default Here's a non-engine related question...

Can anyone tell me how to get the shift boot off? I really want to clean the detritus that has accumulated there out, it pains me to see it and not be able to do anything about it.

I did this just the other week:

1. remove access cap below parking brake and remove the screws
2. remove the 2 screws (1 each side) from the rear bottom of the center console
3. pull out the center console (it is hooked into the front console). lift and slide rearward.
4. pull out ashtray
5. remove the 2 screws that were behind the ashtray
6. remove the console panel
7. disconnect the connector
8. remove the 4 scres holding the front console on. There are 2 on each side and 2 in the front
9. removr your shift ****
10. the front console can then be pulled forward, up and out
11. a couple screws hold the shiftboot to the bottom of the console

done!

The Helm manual is a glorious thing...

Ok this isn't very easy but here we go. First you need to remove the two screws under the ebrake that is covered by that little platic peice that is located under the ebrake in the pocket. Then you need to remove the ash tray and remove the screws behind it, it is either two or three screws(dont remeber beleive its two, left and right, not center). Once you have removed the screws you need to remove the assembly that holds the ashtray and has the lighter connected to it, it is possible to remove this by popping out two clips, I beleive these clips are carbon fiber painted. Once this is done you will need to remove the two screws on each side of the center console in the front close to you legs when sitting in the drivers seat. Once that is done you will need to remove the two screws to the center console in the back below the arm rest. after this remove the console peice that has the arm rest attatched to it. After that half of the console is removed you can attempt to remove the front half, you will need to remove the shift *** to get it off. Once you have the front out you can flip over the peice where you will see two screws a metal plate with boot atattched to it remove the screws and you ready to clean. I had to do this to put a jdm shift boot on my R, so if you plan on installing one wait till you get it before you go through all this drama. Good luck! If you have any questions feel free to ask. I could possibly be leaving out a few small details, it was a while ago when i did this.
