Default Installing JVC stero KDG200 in a 98 civic ex need help...

I have been in the process of installing a JVC KDG-200 in a 98 civic ex. I bought the unit at best buy a few days ago, when i was installing it with the cable they sold me i came to realize that the cable was not correct, so i had to strip the wires from the main big white adapter and connect them the old fanishoned way. Now i have everything working, however i cannot figure out where the yellow cable is supposed to go. The yellow cable being the memory cable, so evertime i take my keys out and turn the car back on, the cd player forgets all the presets, the time, and where the cd was playing, it starts back over. What should i do, does anyone know? Thank you for any input.

The unswitched power wire is white with a blue or yellow tracer on it, if this wire has no power on it check 7.5amp fuse in fusebox under hood.

hope this helps. 94

Now the fusebox under the steering wheel you mean right, or the fuse under the hood?

Thanks for all of your help so far, but i have encountered one problem I don't know if it may be due to installing the stero, or if it is because of a blown fuse that i have not been able to find. But my speedometer does not light up, when the lights are turned on and the key less entry has seized to function, however the interior locking mechanisim still works, could this be a fuse, or what? Any help would be apperacited.

Yes that is probably a fuse also, on the oem radio harness there is a light lead, has power on it when you turn on the parklights, if not useing it on the aftermarket HU, make sure it is capped off. 94

No need to replace all the fuses, it should be on the inside fusebox and marked on the fusebox door. 94

Is that the blue cable with the little white plastic piece on the end? or is it the 2 wires from the car the red one and the black one i think it is that i didnt use, i did already cap off the red and the black from the car, so they wouldn't interfear with anything, so do i need to cap of the blue cable as well. Thank you for all of your help. Could my problem possibibably be the lights behind the speedometer? Could they have blown? Thank you,

No I'm talking about the wires that come from the car not the ones that come from the HU , although there should be no bare wires anywhere. on the oem wire harness, the one you wired your HU to ,there is one wire, red with black tracer I think it has 12v on it when you turn on the park/dash lights, do the parklights work? do any other dashlights work, tach, heater controles? 94

yes there is a red wire with a black tracer, and then there is another wire that are not connected to anything, should i strip them and then connect them to eachother? Or could i have shorted a wire, and that may have been why it smoked while i was testing wires before installing the stero. It smoked from the vent on the drivers side right above the light dimmer.

No they should not be connected together, one of them is the light lead, and if the HU you installed does not need one, cap that wire off. if that wire was shorted to ground it would "smoke" the dimmer control, and if you have no dash lights,[all the lights that are controled by the dimmer] you will need a new dimmer or bypass the dimmer, the other unused wire off the oem radio harness I'm not sure of,power ant.trigger maybe, I will check today at work, as for the door locks,do the power doorlocks work with the switch on the door, but not with the keyless remote? 94

First of all, you are right about the smoking it must have crossed with the ground wire so that is where it smoked, and what exactly would the part be that i would need to buy? (thank you for that ) and yes the interrior lock switch will work but the keyless remote wont function. the battery inside the keychain is fine, because the red led still lights up. Thank you again for all of your help so far.

You are going to need a new dimmer switch,[ the **** that you use to adjust dashlight briteness], on the 98 civic the oem keyless entry used the RF section of the oem radio , [I think] so without it it will not work 94

alright, so i guess in order for my keyless to work, i need to probably install a new keyless entry system, well at least that would probably be my best bet then screwing around with all of the wires again, thanks for all of your help.

You can get them at car audio shops and auto parts shops.
As for the dimmer try a bone yard, or just bypass it,if you can live with bright dash lights. 94

i dont remember what year they quit putting factory keyless in the oem radio but that could be your problem. try plugging your factory radio back up and then try your keyless. if it works then you need to keep your factory radio in there (you can hide it in the center console). you can buy a harness to power your new radio and send power to the factory radio (for the keyless).
