Default DA: H&R RACE springs and KYB GR-2

ok, so i just bought that set-up , all around KYB GR-2 and H&R race to go with it. i have done some reasearch, and the results are 50/50 and dont really match to this setup. i was wondering what you guys think of this set-up. i am just doing daily driving also (safe driver). some people have told me personally that it will hold up, others are against this set-up. does anyone have this set-up?? TIA

The GR2's are basically a stock replacement. The H&R Race springs may be too much for the GR2's over a long period. With H&R race springs I would of went with Konis.

it will hold up fine for a while, just not for THAT long.

the kyb gr2's match up excellent with the H&R OE replacement springs, though

how long is a "while" would tokico illumnias or KYB AGX work if i got those. if "a while" proofs long enough, i will uses them, then get better. also, if i were to sell the GR-2s and buy a better pair, will my stock shocks handle the drop for like a week or not?
thanks allot guys, you are a great help

a while depends on a bunch of things, but i'd say the worst 6 months, and the best about 2 years? really a random guess, because i don't know.

your stock shocks will handle the drop for a week. just don't go over too many bouncy surfaces.

correct me if im wrong but
the HR race drop like 2.0 in the front
and 2.25 in the rear
and the kyb have a longer piston travel therefore
no good right....

Yoink! This is what I said from the same thread Robstunner made on G2IC:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by MugenDude &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Honestly, H&R race is too low of a drop for KYB GR2s. Those shocks are only supposed to be used with the stock springs, as a better OEM replacement. Even if you had H&R sports (taller springs) or KYB's best shock, the AGX, I would still be concerned about your setup.

You're dropping your car. If it's not done right, it will never be done because **** will keep breaking on yo ***.

I believe you have 2 options at this point if you want it done right.

1.) Install the GR2s with the stock springs, keep the H&Rs , and finish collecting parts to drop your car. Do it right; done. Your car would be fixed for the moment, and that would give you time to buy a camber kit (believe me, you'll need one for H&R race), bushings, balljoints, tie rods, etc. O, and most importantly, new shocks. H&R race needs a shock that can take 2.5-3" drop. Koni Yellows are expensive, but they will work very well with H&R race. They're not even comparable to KYB AGXs, let alone GR2s.

2.)Sell shocks and springs. Use money towards some less agressive springs and better shocks. H&R sports (or something like it, ~1.5-2" drop), and something adjustable like KYB AGX. Now I know it wouldn't be as low, and you'd have to deal with selling the parts, but in the end I think you'd be happier with this kind of setup. Having a car dumped to the ground looks good, but if it's not done right, your car will bounce all over the place, throwing your coolness right out the window.

Dropping a car is not as easy as just replacing the springs and shocks. Get a Helms manual, and see what all needs to be replaced when doing the suspension. I've been collecting parts for about 2 months, and I'm still not done. Good luck, man.</TD></TR></TABLE>

IMO the gr2's will not stand up very well with the H&R race. The gr2 is essentially designed to be a stock replacement, not an upgrade. The spring rate is probably towards the upper limit of the gr2 (from what i remember the spring rates to be). But Id think the more concerning factor is the drop from the H&R race. Thats a lot lower than stock and going to be hard on a shock designed for stock replacement.
