Save your motor and/or tranny, replace your shifter bushings
Well, I replaced my clutch a few weeks back. While I had it all apart, I figured I'd replace all the wear items that were cheap. This included the rubber bushings in the shifter.
Even with only 30K mi, I had picked up a tendency to want to miss the 5th shift and go into 3rd. Also to miss the 4th downshift, and go into 2nd! Fortunately the few times this happened, I felt it was wrong, either at the shifter or at the clutch pedal, and kept the clutch in, preventing damage.
I highly recommend you take the time to make this 'mod' if you have over 30M. I used the stock factory bushings, and it feels great, with much crisper shifting. After reading reports of noise and vibration with aftermarket bushings, I opted not to go that route. The stock parts were around $15 from Len, and it should take about an hour (not more than two) to do the whole thing from scratch. I did buy a new roll pin for the shifter, but it was so tight to install it, I used the old one. It was tight as well, and I cant see it coming out

Previous owner had the ES shifter bushings installed. I've also had them on my old hatchback but I grew tired of the notchy feeling.
I bought some brand new OE bushings and I cant find the "sloppy" feeling everyone complains about.

And the CX still has as much play in it as Mikes mom.
