ok, so im planing on getting my headgasket replaced on my 94 GSR with 141K, it smokes white and black somtimes at WOT so i figure it has to be my headgasket thats goin on me. anyway, question is about what else should i be getting replaced while im getting this done. iv heard about doing my timing belt, getting new cam oil seals, t-belt tensioner???, and probably get a new water pump. is there anything else i should consider getting, or do i even need some of the things i mentioned? also should i just go with OEM parts or go with some aftermarket parts too. so far i have only looked at http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org for OEM parts, any other places i should be lookin? thanks for the help guys!
i doubt the head gasket is your problem it sounds like a bad set of rings
but things you should change in process...
thermostat
radiator hoses
timing belt (drive belts seals water pump tensioner
spark plugs
distributor o-ring
cam plug
valve cover gasket
cam seals
and yes stick with oem parts
you will have less problems later

ok, how would i be able to find out if it was my piston rings too and not just my head gasket, would it be a good idea to just replace the piston rings too?
While you have it torn a part you might as well do a mini rebuild with new rod bearings and piston rings if you have money it makes sense that sense you have gone that far. Other wise I think you rings should be fine.

Compression test
Compression test
I would suggest going with OEM parts above all for the best fit.
As for problems down the line, its hard to say aftermarket is lesser as there are dozens of companies out there manufacturing oem parts and sell them on the side. People who make blanket statements dont really know what they are talking about.
something you should change while youre doing this is your motor oil
Good luck

hey Kyle...do a compression test first to see if the problem lies in the rings before you start taking the badboy apart. if you need a tester...just hit me up.

ok, well here is what i plan on getting for this rebuild. all pics are from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org which is where i plan on getting all my parts unless sombody knows of any other places with good deals. ok so here goes.

024 oil seal X2 $5 per, 013 belt $55, 014 tensioner $50

001 waterpump $95

002 ring set x 4 (which one, part 7493 or 7494) $27 per set, um 010 rod bearings??? $10 per
does anybody have any other little things they would recomend me getting? and if i could get some help with the headgasket and ring set part number that would be great. thanks

since everyone is talking about head gasket, i think i need a new head gasket as well, because my oil seems to leak around that area. or above the distributor. and honda in nz said i need to replace the seel or gasket or some ****,
12251-P30-014 = headgasket
13011-PR3-003= ring set (std bore)
on rod bearings, you need to know which ones you'll need; they are color coded. most popular applications are green and brown..if thats the case, go acl brand and save a little.
also, replace #8 in the 1st pic u posted..
man, this is gonna be fun, trust me.. just take your time and do it right

actually is sounds to me like u just need a new valve cover gasket and probably a cam seal, not that big of a deal....just changed both of those out on my car like a month ago...

if you're going to do the timing belt, get the kit from prostreetonline... it comes w/ everything u need to change ur timimg belt, and its way cheaper than buying all the parts seperate

hey man, thanks for tellin me about that place, i should save about 60 bux on the tbelt, tensioner, and waterpump from that place. they also have the head gasket with the correct part number!
ok anyway, here r some semi new questions, do i really need to worry about the rod bearings or not? Also, should i just go OEM piston rings or is there some other brands that would work just as well. such as.. http://catalog.overnightautopa....y=11
