Default permanent brake dust with spec b pads?

After a couple weeks of not washing my wheels a somewhat permanent layer of brake dust has coated my wheels. I used a set of spec b pads at road atlanta and dusted them pretty good. I spend about 45 minutes using degreaser to try and get this stuff off. I got about half of it off and gave up for now. I also used a gas powered pressure washer and wouldn't even get any of it off. Anybody else had this happen?

No, but then again I'm not driving aroun on the dusted wheels.

Its probably the same thing Hawk Blues do. If you leave the dust on the wheels and it gets wet, it corrodes, kind of like rust, and attaches itself permanently.

Good solutions I've seen are spraying the wheels with PAM cooking spray before an event and simply keeping the dust cleaned off as much as possible.

Good luck getting it off.

Yes. Try naval jelly and you'll probably need to repaint them after that.

Thats exactly what happened. It didn't happen until I drove the car in the rain a few days later. Guess I won't make that mistake again.

i had the same experience with Cobalt VRs. it took several hours of spraying them down with engine degreaser and scrubbing them to get it all off. it all came off, but it took forever.

Yup, same problem here. I had seemingly permanent brake dust from just running Axxis Ultimates on the street, but rubbing it with EagleOne NeverDull cleaned it up (took a lot of work though). Then I ran Spec-B's on the track and didn't clean the wheels afterwards... now I have what appears to be rust on the lip of my aluminum wheels. I'm just going to take sand paper to it and refinish it...

Get yourself a bar of detailing clay and rub the heck out of them. You can get most of it off this way and it doesn't ruin the finish on the wheels. Make sure you don't get the bar you use on your wheels mixed up with the one you use on your car.......

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Works awesome to clean off brake dust. Will not damage the finish on the wheels.

I found the solution! Meguiar's Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner.

I picked up a bottle of it tonight and gave it a try. Sprayed a bunch on, waited 15 seconds, washed it off, and the polished lip on my rim was a much much cleaner and shiney (I forgot what that looked like!). I then took a tire/wheel brush to it and the more persistent crap came right off like it was nothing. I'm incredibly pleased with this stuff.

I had an excessive amount of race brake dust that was stuck on there really bad. I tried other wheel cleaners, degreasers, pressure washing, and lots of scrubbing, but they didn't make much of a difference at all. The only way I found that actually cleaned it up good was scrubbing the hell out of it with EagleOne NeverDull, but that was tedious, exhausting, and took hours. This Meguiar's Hot Rims stuff really makes life a heck of a lot easier. Big thumbs up from me.
