why wont my car turn on???
alright, for the past three or four weeks i've been gone for school and before i left the clutch in my 91 hatch went out. well, today i decided to check and see what was going on with it. i knew that i had to jump start it but when my friend and i hooked up the cables, i tried it and nothing. i let it sit for like ten min or so and i could tell that the car was turning and that it had power because before i wasn't able to see any lights come on or nothing. so i would turn the key and just nothing.
i would like to know if it's a combonation of things or one thing or what??? could it be a bad alternator a bad battery. i don't think the battery is bad because i just got it a couple of months ago sooo. can some one please help me.
thanks

What do you mean by "turning the key and nothing"????????????
A boost should be able to start your car unless there is something else going on. Explain a bit more.

Ok, let's start over here.
When you turn the key, the motor turns over yet does not want to start right?
Also, how much mechanical knowledge do you have?

i know about medium. still learning though i can pick up things pretty fast though. so if you say something i should be able to understand what you are talking about.
Ok, so you say it starts to turn, but then quits. Well, you need more juice going to the starter.
Yet you say that even with a boost you can't get it going... That's what is puzzling. DO you have an extra good battery? Or can you borrow one from a friend?

Sounds to me that the starter is just about dead.
With a jump, like he already has tried, the starter should have kicked out and spun the motor over.

You can take the one you borrowed off, and slap the old one on the car (while it is running) and let it charge for quite a while. If the battery is still good it wil charge up.

If the alternator was dead.
If the alternator was dead.
Have you tried to push start the car?
if not, try it!
if the car starts let it run for a while so the alternator can charge the battery, if that is what the problem is.
After that, turn the car off, and try to start it again. If it does not start, but has power on everything else, then I would say that your starter is going/gone bad.
I had problems with mine, but took a while to diagnos. Read my post for further help on getting yours up and running.

PLEASE NOTE: every time I said "jump" start, what I really meant was "push" start

what does nothing mean?
What gear did you try it in?
Do you still have power to the lights in the interior?
