Default gsr header on ls

right now i have a 1998 ls. i am putting headers cat and exhaust on my car and i am wondering that if later on i plan to do an ls v-tec conversion to my car should i buy headers for a gsr instead of an ls because there is no point on buying the ls ones if i dont need them. Im sure they will fit right to the ls (correct me if im wrong). A thing i dont know is if the gsr headers will hurt or damage my ls engine untill i do the vtech conversion. If i do put v-tec headers on a non vtec car how will it effect the performance. I plan to do the conversion maybe next summer im just trying to think ahead so i dont have to buy parts twice, especially since the comptech headers are around $500.

Default Re: gsr header on ls (1998teg)

First of all, it's header. We don't have a V-shaped or boxer engine.

Second of all, a LS/VTEC conversion will only change the head. The block will remain the same, minus boring of oil drainage holes and new bolt holes, hence the LS part and the VTEC head. You should get a header that will match up with your LS.

With taht said, I believe the bolt pattern onto the block is the same. And if the header is for a 00-01 GSR or 97-01 ITR, it'll bolt up to the catalytic convertor perfectly as well. A header isn't designed differently for VTEC vs Non-VTEC so don't worry about that. The only difference would be in the A-pipe length which is different for 94-99 GSRs. The exhaust manifold (upper part of the header) is the same regardless.

I'm not 100% sure of this, so correct me. I'm about 95% sure of what I've said.
