Default Couple Questions

Well I'm going to be getting a 97 Gsr in about a week, it's going to be my first car. I was supposed to get it sooner but the guy who is selling it is going on a vacation so I have to wait for him to come back (this week is going to go so sloooow!!! ) Anyway I have a couple questions. I remember reading on the forums a while ago about any wheel size 16" + slows down your acceleration. Well the car I'm getting has 17's on it already. I also heard that it will slow down acceleration but will increase handling? At least I think I read that. Is it very noticable? Also it comes with a tach w/ shift light with a black face guage. Is there a way I can just buy just the white guage face? If I can't I can live with it. And the last question is, there is a little crack in the rear bumper, so I'm thinking about getting a new one eventually. About how much do they run?

Thanks for the help guys.

wow... lots of questions is rite.. hehe .. alright here goes...

first congrats on the new car! i love my teg and could never part wit it.
second, the diameter of the rim doesnt matter so much i think as the overall diameter of the wheel tire combo and also the weight of said combo. Increase in the rotational mass will require more power to turn the wheel and get the car moving thus reduction in acceleration and overall performance. As for 17"s they are nice, but ur gonna have to be real careful about the potholes from now on...

As for the tach... well depending on how the previous owner had it installed.. it shouldn't be incredibly difficult to remove it entirely, if you're that unpleased with it that is. If you just dont like the color, well i'm not too sure on color interchangability for jsut faces of tachs.

Lastly, the bumper shouldn't be too hard to come by. What i would do in your position is take that opportunity to pick up a 98+ model year rear bumper and change to that. You can find bumpers being sold used all over the place including the classifieds of this website, team-integra.net and u may be able to find a local seller on partstrader.com Cost should be oh anywhere from a 100 to 250 i'd say depending what model year and condition. If you want new, well then you can PM len on this board who works at an Acura parts dept. and supposedly gives good deals to us HT guys.

hope that helps

As for wheels, 16's are usually the comprimise for looks and acceleration. A set of 15's can be made to handle just as well as a set of 17's. Referencing the tach, what's wrong with the stock one? Finally, 94-97 rear bumpers are fairly common and usually aren't terribly expensive. Often you can find one the same color as your car and avoid having to have it painted.

yeah man, search the h-t classifieds for a bumper in YOUR color. It might take a month or so of searching, but it's worth it when you're able to spend only $120ish for a bumper in good condition and best of all, you don't need to spend another $150+ to get it painted. Plenty of people are ALWAYS trying to get rid of bumpers for some reason or another

As for the tach it comes w/, I'd just strait up remove it man. If you don't like the COLOR of it now, and you havn't even bought the car yet, then you're probably gonna grow even more tired of it in the long run

Congrats on the car though, gsr's are FUN FUN FUN

Bigger wheels = more weight, wider tire.
More weight = larger moment of inertia -> slower acceleration
Wider tire = larger contact patch -> better handling

I'd say get rid of the 17's (too big and makes a teg ugly IMO) and get 15" or 16" rims, and put on tires that are a little bigger than necessary (but will hold air of course) and you will have a wide tire with less weight.

You already have a tach in the console. Why do you need another one? I say get rid of the extra tach...pure ricer material to me.
