Default Rocks poked a hole in my Oil Pan. Whats best to do?? HELP!

I just finally got my car boosted. StOOpid Construction trucks leaving crap all over the city!!@ and lucky me ran into a HUGE rock and Clunk! Popped a hole in my Oil pan, spilling Oil everywhere! Its parked at a friends house now, undrivable without any oil.

Whats your experience? Should I just put it on a lift and weld the crack?

Or should I remove the pan then weld it? ( Oil Pan are pain in the *** [damn bolts]! ) and buy another new gasket and on it goes again?

What possibilities of me ruining my car while welding the pan, on the car? Inputs will help...Thanks!

i would just get a new one if its bad... if its not just try doing it with it still on the car... if it leaks, then take it off and weld it - its always worth a try to do it the easy way

Yea, I just want to get my car running. Its not so bad, but fixable. 1 cm crack?

I rather not get a new one.. To much hassle creating a new hole and getting a new return line fitting somewhere..... and weld that on...

Like they all say, once you boost. You be addicted! I miss it, and I want it now! -=P

eitherway ide take it off...examine for anymore damage..then if it looks ok you could prolly get away with welding it....but if you have the funds just replace it...up to you.

take the pan off.... make sure its clean before you weld it! If not for the safety during welding, you should at least check the pan for dirt or rocks or whatever you ran over! Check the pickup too

The proper way to repair an Oil Pan is to weld it from the inside...

Wouldint you have trouble welding the puncture if it was oily?

I would take the pan off for sure, clean it and weld it. Who knows maby where the rock hit it could have pushed in the pan a little and broke off your oil pickup.

The thing is you're never going to get it perfectly clean in order to put the JB Weld on there or actualyl weld it. Some oil is always gonna be coming thru the crack. It's best just to pull it, clean it, and then have it welded up nice on both sides. It's not that big of a deal and it's going to have to be done at some point.

Good point there.. When I welded the return bung into my oil pan I didnt clean it and the oil caught on fire while I was welding..

Yea, I actually took off the oil pan last night. The pan was knocked/popped out.. and found a tiny crack/hole at the end of the pan, by the drain plug.

I just grinded off all the paint around it. Smooth it out a little.

And used a wirefeed (no gas) and welded 3 straight lines over it. Turned out better then I thought!! (noob at welding, but i got the BEADS!@)... Then I just welded on a skid plat of steel on front of the pan, just for extra security next time.

The oil pan gasket was like 1 week old. When removed, it looks good as new! No crushed looking or anything. So i reused it with no GLUE.. and it works out like a charm!! Hold oil fine!

And of course, a can of high temp paint to overall cover the mess.
