Idea for STS Honda's
Hey guys I've seen that Team Dynamics is putting out a 14x7 inch wheel. So a 14 inch wheels should turn up faster than a 15 so what do you guys think about a 195 azenis on these new wheels?????

I would prefer the 15's as the 15's are much wider. The tire height isn't any different so you don't see any gearing advantage either. I have thought about buying some 14's for rain tires. Mainly because I have a set of 14" stock wheels in the garage and can't afford another set of 15" wheels just for rain.

You are comparing the 205's (50/15's) to the 195's right?
Have you measured both tires on an equal width wheel?
For example I ran 215/45/16's on my Lude. I run the 205/50/15's on my R. I ran out of the 215's so when looking for a new set I measured both sizes on a 7" wide wheel, and the difference was minimal.
Needless to say the Lude runs the 205's know to save funds and improved gearing.
Ugh.. I just noticed the 195 is a 60 series.

Ahhh... A 235-45-13 Azenis on a 13x7.5 Lenso or similar on a 2000lbs 100hp STS Civic would own all... Problem is, Falken would never sell enough of these to ricers to justify production.
JS, who's Frankencivic is not legal for STS and who prefers r-tires anyway. SM all the way!

I was talking about the tires. I should be getting a set of used 14" azenis this weekend so I can get some actual data. But just from looking at the 14's they aren't nearly as wide. The 215/16 is fairly similar to the 205/15. i think the difference is about .1" or something very small like that.

Actually, once mounted the 215/45/16 is almost 1/2 inch wider. I compared a 215/45/16 on a 16x7.5 to my 205/50/15's on a 15x8 and the 215 on the 7.5 was a larger footprint.
Plus, the 215 has a shorter sidewall. This is why I'm switching on my ITR before the national championship. Plus i need the taller gearing. I run out of second gear everywhere.

Aren't the 14's azenis not speedrated. I"m not particularly sure as to what its called exactly but they are not as good as the 15's if I remember correctly.
195 azenis mounted on a 14x5.5 wheel are about 1/2"-3/4" narrower then a 205 mounted on a 15x7.
good god todd, you've spent more on wheels and tires then i've spent on my entire car.

They do in fact have a speed rating. The 195/60-14 has an "H" speed rating.

Well here is a tip - look at what the guys who are winning STS at the pro level are running. I assure you that your idea is not new and if it works then the "big dogs" will be running them.
If none of the front-running national competitors are running 14x7s then chances are it is not a good idea.

I can vouch for this also. I'm running the 195 on a 5.5in. wheel, and my main competition locally is running a 205 Azeni on a 6.5in wheel. That extra bit of footprint, plus his factory LSD ('93 Nissan Sentra SE-R) is killing me. I did edge him out at a recent event by 0.035, but that's basically a dead-heat...

i like the 14's. i'm running them on some 14x6 mugen CF-48's on a basically stock 86 civic Si in STS here in DC area.. i'm constistantly 5th out of 20 or so.. not too bad, all i've got are shocks and tokico sport springs.. other than that, 100 % stock! not even an exhaust...
anyway, i'm sure i get more roll on the tires than 15's, though. i can take pics if you are all intersted.. have had them for almost 2 years.. not daily driven, though. was for a while. they are starting to get pretty worn.. although, i do run low pressures.. 32 front, 36 rear.. granted my civic only weighs about 1900 lbs..

32f/36r? don't you mean the other way around? but you're right about how the 205's don't roll. i had to lower my rear pressure to around 31 to get any rollover.

surprisingly, no. i run higher pressures in the back.. increases rear stiffness. it's seemed to work so far. i guess i'll switch it up next autox and see what happens.
