Default Buyin a 99 EK hatch. Looking for opinions.

Hey guys.

I have a 99 ek hatch. Just looking for opinions to start my shopping list. I can get a good deal on a B18C5. Haven't swapped yet. My goal is a high 12 or low 13 all-motor. Daily Driver.

I already have my own shopping list, but I'd really like to hear from people that have experience hitting that goal with their own car. What worked for you ?

Well i had a h22 in an eg. It was really quick. the swap cost around 5k. I was able to hit 13.3 with it with i/e/h/and a stright pipe. on slicks.. so h22 is pretty good swap to do.. i would reccomend it. but the type r motor is definatly a good option.,.

Hey thanks for the reply. I was debating the H swap, but I decided I'd really like keep a/c and p/s for daily driving comfort.

dude..just buy a cheap ek and do a k20 swap...thats like mid 13's right there....

I think a K20 would cost me more to finish.

Anyone have any experiences with their B18C5 ?

The last hatch I saw with a bone stock b18c5 was an eg and it was slow. It ran 14.8. I think something was wrong with it though. I have a 00 Ek hatch and i'm going to be doing Ls turbo. If you like spending lots of money then maybe you should try a k20a2.

chances are youre gonna be messing around with the engine. if so, i would go with the gsr motor. basically same as c5, but doesnt cost you an arm and a leg. with that money saved, you can build it up any way you choose. if youre gonna keep the motor stock, then the type r motor would fit the bill. but theres no point in ripping up a c5. i mean that thing was hand built by honda(wasnt it?)

bottom line... i would say gsr and check out your options with the saved cashola

You're right. I will be messing around with the engine. Like I said earlier though, I've got a great deal on the C5. $3000. It has the compression I want and the head is much better than the GSR, not to mention the cams and valvetrain. Plus the ecu has a better tune. An all around better motor. I'll start with just simple bolt-ons... iceman, toda header, 2.5" custom piping, N1 muffler and VAFC.

Doesn't anyone have an R motor in their hatch ? Looking for replies by R motor owners. Thanks.

Your not going to hit 12's all motor without some serious internal upgrades to the block and head. If this is your goal and you have money to blow you might want to buy a cheaper block because your just going to end up sleeving it, boring it, and dropping in higher compression pistons. If you can get a good deal on a B18C5 and it's from a reliable source then I would go for that then. Most people would be happy with that motor in stock form. People on this board have pulled anywhere from low 13's to low 15's with minor mods. Every situation is different but just because Tom can pull low 13's with minor mods doesn't mean you should expect to do the same. I would also be cautious of a $3,000 B18C5. It's either messed up, stolen, or the guys is ******* your sister.
