Default Wide and light or Wide and heavy?

I have been thinking about running wider wheels, I currently using a set of Cp035 15x6.5 with Victoracers on my ITR. I am considering some 7.5 wide wheels.
My choices are the cp035 at around $1400 or a set of Kosei K1s at around $500
for 15x7 the Cps are only 9.4 lbs where the Koseis are 13.5 lbs.

How much better is a 4 lb difference?

Too bad there are no 15' lensos, they are light and cheap.

Thanks.

How much of a difference 4lbs makes depends on what you're doing.

I think you would notice the difference (weight is weight), but that's $900. If I was a front-runner in H1 then maybe I'd consider it. I wouldn't consider it for STX though, where you can lose to a stellar driver with less than stellar equipment.

I run Street Mod, not only I need to really improve my Driving skills, but I am getting killed by the M3s and a Civic Hatch back.

I agree, that the wheels will not improve my driving.

I have the cash, just debating to just get something now or wait, but it may be more difficult to buy the wheels later.

Ever since I started I have had Adjustable Cam gears I had them on before I even knew about AutoX, that is what puts me in SM.

I recommend you put the stock cam gears back on and run STS and spend the money you're trying to spend on something you don't need on and evolution driving school. That (seat time and proper training) is what's going to improve your times.

Unless you become a MUCH better driver than them you will always be killed by them, you are in an inferior car. As has been stated, take off whatever puts you in SM and then you can worry about being competitive.

IM me. I have a set of SSR Comps in a 15x7.5 5x114 that I'm selling (if you are interested). I assume you drive an ITR.

And yes, the extra width makes a huge difference.

I was always up to the challenge, I know in SM I may never win, but it is good to see how I inch closer to their times. I guess kind of being pushed in competition.
I have began to thought about taking the gears off, but I will need to see what class that puts me in since I have many other mods. I may be able to compete in DSP but I was told something that Skunk2 camber kits are not allowed for somereason, will need to look into it more.

Are race headers allowed in DSP? I'm sure i need to have a cat no test pipe.

How much do the SSRs weight?

Perhaps it's time someone read the rule book?

The gears and adjustable a-arms keep you out of DSP
Only the gears keep you out of STX

I know personally that you wouldn't get protested if you ran in DSP. We would be happy to have more people in the class even if you had questionable mods. Trust me, I know cars that used to run in DSP with far more illegal stuff.

I also really doubt anyone in STX would protest you for gears (if the ever found out).

Do you have any internal engine work? That would be the only real reason to run in SM.

I tired to read the rule book today, and I did not see anything specific to the a arm, I guess I more like skimmed through it during lunch. I'll have to read and re-read.

I was thinking about it and i can go back to the Ingalls Camber kit, rip them off the CRX or just get another set, I just figured it would be easier to adjust the Skunks which in reality they are not.

I have no internal engine work, it is all stock.

I want to be cool, it makes it more fun to compete with no chance of protest it makes it all fair if I am gonna compete against you, Gilbert and Don.

How do teh rules work, if it is not mentioned it is not allowed, right? I heard something like that a few weeks ago, I always thought, if it is not mentioned, it must be ok....

Hehe, that would be too cool for a change. It doesnt say you can't turbo the thing so...

If you are in Street Mod, you will never win a National level event in an ITR. I love the car but a 2300 lb(stripped to the limit of the rules and using the lightest parts you can find) front wheel drive car with a 1.8 liter motor is never gonna beat a 2500 lb rear wheel drive car with a 3 liter motor or a 1800lb car with a 1.6 liter motor. (all other things like forced induction being equal)

Therefore, since you know you can't win, spend your money on driver skills rather than equipment. $1400 buys 6 Evo schools or 10 events that you have to travel to or a 4 day racing school or 6 track days. Any of which will improve your times more than 4 pound lighter wheels.

A neon won the Peru National Tour. I was there. Saying an ITR can never win a "national-level" event in SM is pretty damned far from the truth, because of the very reasons you mentioned; driving skill. Saying an ITR can't win at Nationals is probably accurate, but Nationals is a whole other ballgame.
