I want to put a 18x8.5 wheel on my '04 Accord. I am not too knowledgeable on wheels and tire sizes. I don't want the car to rub. Is this possible? And if so, what size tires would I need and what offset?

Im not positive but your offset should be in your car manual. Personally I think 17s look rediculous let alone 18s. Your call

 

But will they fit with the 8.5 width? I have seen 20's and I think they look good.

They will fit, whether or not you need low profile tires, i dont know. The only trouble I see you getting into with 18s is lowering the car, if you dont plan on doing that you should be ok and probably wont have any tire rub inside the wheel well.

 

yes they will fit with 225/40/18 or 235/35/18 tire. also the offset on ur wheels have to be a little lower than normal. and you can lower your car also.

 

Some wheels and tires will fit but it's more limited that 18x8s. Take a look on tirerack.com for examples.
