Default obd1 O2 question

Do I have to have a 4 wire O2 for a obd0 to obd1 conversion? What vehicle application do I use? When others changed over with a wiring harness, did you just cut the wires you needed to splice in to at the ecu and wire them in to the new harness (like the Vtec pressure switch sensor etc..)? Or did you run a new wire all the way to the sensor? Do you have to replace the injectors and resistor box or does that all remain the same?
