Default The search for dust boots continues....

I have posted this in the Integra and ITR forums, but I know many people in this forum swear by the Koni/GC combo, so I'm asking here:

I installed my Koni Ground Controls last week, and I tried to find something to cover the shock piston since the stock dust covers won't work as intended w/ coilover springs. So after searching I found this pic from JonsteR:

He said he got them from AutoZone, so I went there, and the only thing they had was this:

I fit this universal rack and pinion boot over one of my shocks, and it seem to fit pretty well, but it seemed to fit pretty tightly inside the spring. I pretty much had to force the boot inside the spring. I'm not sure if that would work very well w/ the movement of the spring all the time while driving.

Has ANYBODY found ANYTHING that I can use to cover the entire shock piston? Cutting the stock covers as GC recommends is pointless and renders the stock dust covers useless. Has anyone seen a company making full adjustable coilovers w/ dust boots that I might be able to get the dust boots separately?? TIA

Why do you say that cutting the stock covers it useless?

I'm assuming the DC2 is the same as the DA: you jut sneed to rebore the shaft opening at the top and it should fit. You have clearance issues with your springs?

I have been too lazy to put some on.

i8 went to a local part store that rebuolds steering racks, i sized up a boot just right inner diameter and length. but because of my upper mounts, the boot is sandwiched betweent he bumpstop and the shock. i'll get pics sometime soon but it looks exactly like the pics above. the fitment was just right, once it was on the shock body, spring was fitted perfectly without snagging the boot. unfortunately it cost me 13 a pop

The piston is already covered being inside the damper body, what you are trying to cover is the piston rod or shaft.

I seem to recall, from my cycling days, a shock boot for mountain bike forks that was a neoprene type material, clipped on the top and bottom, it snugged up to the shaft and compressed/extended as necessary. I believe it was made by a company called Lizard Skinz
you might want to look into that...

So you're saying the part that sticks out above the shock body and goes inside when the shock is compressed is not the shock piston, but another separate part from the shock piston? Whatever, I was trying to illustrate a point which I think most people understood, not get the exact correct terminology.

You may be able to source what you're looking for at a motorcycle shop. They use the accordian style dust boots for the exposed front forks of motocross bikes. Just have to find a set that fit the necessary upper and lower diameters....length won't be an issue.

Yeah, but everything 4x4 related is MASSIVE compared to our little Hondas. The dust boots I saw at a local store were almost 3" diameter and probably 14" long.

Have any of you tried the dust boots made by Energy Suspension? They're only $7.39 a pair from summit racing. My GCs are going on soon, so I'm thinking about ordering them but not sure if they'll fit or not.

4x4 shock dust boots are massive, about 3" diameter and 14" long on most of them.

A friend mentioned trying a 4x4 steering stabilizer boot, as it's smaller than a shock dust boot.
