Amp Power Wiring and RCAs
I've spent quite a few bucks on my system so far and am now faced with the wiring issue. I'm getting my box on Thursday unless UPS ***** it off, so now is the time to get the wires so I'm ready for the install. I asked a couple friends about wiring, if brands matter, etc. and got some mixed answers, so now I ask you. I found a power wiring kit and some RCAs at wal-mart and am wondering if these are worth a **** or not. I know that wal-mart is definetely not the place to go for bangin car audio, so I'm a little skeptical, but their wiring kits are oh so cheap. like 50% of what I was looking at paying. What do you guys think? The gauges of the power wires are all correct and the RCA cables have gold-plated connectors. Is this all that really matters? Are they good quality? Somebody help me save some money! Thanks in advance for the help.
The shielding on these power wires looks exactly like every other amp power cable I've ever seen. Pretty thick transparent red shielding. The RCA's are pretty well-insulated as well. I'm going to be running the wires on opposite sides of the car to ensure that there is no interference or signal distortion. Besides the shielding, what else should I be looking for?

Thats jsut the insulation.

jsut make sure the wire is adequate size and make sure the connections are solid ie. when you plug them in they dont wiggle or come off too easy

so define shielding for me. I'm a complete car audio newb except for installing head units and basic speakers. Most of my expertise is in home audio set up [I have two surround-sound setups in the same 10'x12' room; one for the computer, one for the a/v equipment, and one more system in the living room for my parents a/v equip lol]. Sorry for all the retarded questions, but I don't want a craptacular system. I'd rather learn a lot of B.S. that I never wanted to know than pay someone to install it or have a fucked off sounding system.

Those kits from Walmart will do the job just fine. If I'm not mistaken, those kits are made by Scoshe? They are pretty good. Save yourself some money and go with that kit.
sheilding really determines how much interference is blocked out by the rcas. cheap wires will get distortion from power wires and other signals in the cars. better ones will sound perfect almost everywhere.

all the wires in one of those kits are fine, you wont get the best sound out of the RCA's but all you have to do is buy one of the kits that doesnt come with RCA's then order some Zero noise cables,
, i use them and have had no problems with interference yet.....

well the noise factor really depends on how close to your power wires your RCA's are, I believe. And in talking to my dad, the shielding mystery is revealed. It's the thin wire mesh they run around the main wire, and then coat with insulation. Helps to keep interference to a minimum. Anyway, the wiring kit I'm talking about is in fact Scoshe. I guess since no one I've talked to has any negative things to say, I'm going to pick one up next week, gotta wait for that check. Thanks for all ya'lls help, I really appreciate it!

The RCAs is only one of the places noise gets into your system, and evan good 100% sheild RCAs can have noise RFed into them, and will not stop noise RFed into HU. the scoshe RCAs that come in the kit are entry leval .and if your not entering SQ sound offs, they will work just fine.
The install will make a bigger diffarence in SQ, and if there is noise or not, take your time and do it right, if your not sure about some aspect of the install , just post again, lots of us here to help
Good luck

I'll vouch for Monster Cable, they may seem pricey (you'll die if you knew about the 200% retail markup) but there's some good R&D in their products and I have seen and heard the difference; though subtle.
Try the cheapo wires if you want. If you hear some background noise during "quiet" periods in the music, or alternator whine (which may or may not be related to RCA quality in some cases) consider upgrading to better wire.
I use Zero Noise wire and have been very happy with it.

I also do nothing but monster cable......the walmart **** will will work but you will not the same sound quality as if you had gone with monster cable that **** is probably some of the best **** out there...........
