Default Mis-fireing?

I don't know exactly what the problem is with my car, its a 1989 Civic HB SI, when I speed up it seems to miss fire, but it only happens when I get to a certin RPM, mainly around 3K, but after a bit it will get lower and lower when it miss fires or whatever is wrong with it, any help with this would be greatly helpfull!

I bought the car. . . .about 4-6 months ago. The guy said he kept up on all the maintenance things, but he did seem kinda half baked if ya know what I mean, so I don't believe he touched the engine at all, i'm about 200 miles away from having 189,000 Miles on the stock motor.

Oh I know what you mean.

Well being that you dont know for sure what he did you should check out a bunch of things with that many miles. As far as the problem goes take off the distrubuter cap and look at the points inside also when the cap is off look at the rotor they normally get replaced at the same time in a normall tune up.. If they dont look NEW you should replace those along with plugs/wires. Other then that if you havent got anything done as for maintainance take a look at coolant/trans fluid.
